Is this what we've come to? Social media gang wars?
Instagram: I'm not going to let you you show my pictures on your feed anymore!
Twitter: Oh yeah, well we don't need your filters anymore, we made an app of our own!
Instagram: yeah, well it sucks.
Twitter: Yeah... we hired the apple maps guy.
Yeah, because filtering photos turns crappy photos into filtered crappy photos. And as a photographer, you still suck but your idiot friends will say, "Ooh!" and "Ahh!" because they're idiots.

Haha, I can't agree more. I don't understand why everyone thinks throwing a filter on a photo makes it look artsy. It just looks like a picture of scrambled eggs taken in the 1950's man.
Gizmodo did a neat little comparison of the two here:

The TL;DR for it is basically that all twitters filters are really simplistic (yeah they must've hired the Apple Maps guy) with filters that just make something cooler, or warmer, a couple contrast and saturation changes. Instagrams filters are still a little more dynamic and add more complex changes to pictures.
And although I'm not arguing that crappy photos with filtered make crappy filtered photos, their fun to use and can make some pictures look a lot better.
I'm not sure why Instagram pics would be compared to a photographers because it's obviously not something used professionally and isn't going to compare quality wise but it's purpose is to let people experiment a little with photography and enjoy it and I'm all for that even if the hipsteresque content that gets produced isn't the most visually attractive, what people do with their time and pictures is their business so we're not really in a position to judge.
Now if only twitter could make it possible to log out of its android app. :-P
