AT&T Announces the Samsung Galaxy Camera, a Point-And-Shoot with a Data Plan

Samsung has developed a creative solution to consumers’ desire to have a speedier and more convenient way to share photos with its Samsung Galaxy Camera, which is now available from AT&T.

The camera runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has 4G capabilities, and the 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCd display is quite large. Under the hood, there’s a 1.4GHz processor, and the camera part of the machine offers 21x optical zoom and 16MP backside illuminated CMOS sensor. There are some manual camera controls including shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

The answer to the two biggest questions potential buyers will have are as follows: No, the device does not have phone capabilities, and yes, you can access Android apps from the Google Play store.


Available starting on November 16th, the Samsung Galaxy Camera will cost $499.99, although for a limited time, you can get $100 off of a Samsung Galaxy device when you buy any Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Buyers of the camera also get free 5GB of storage on the AT&T Locker, which enables photo storage and sharing.

The Samsung Galaxy Camera requires a data plan, but users can spread their one data plan out over several device with AT&T Mobile Share, which starts at $10 for between 1GB and 20GB. Other available plans include $15 for 250MB, $30 for 3GB, and $50 for 5GB.

The last big question is whether consumers are ready for a 4G, Android-packing camera that costs $499.99.
