The biggest thing at least visibly to me from a hardware perspective is this, there processors are efficient, very small, have very contained cooling needs. They are also growing rampantly in cores as well as memory usage parameters. Think about this an 8-10 core bed at 22nm or less. Then also realize there cores run phones, tablets, cameras (point and click up to professional level 3D), Chrome books, Surface RT, servers now etc etc etc.
It seems MIPS has been acquired by Imagination...
