Help to select Memory compatible with Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5.

hi guys, I need a help with selecting a memoir that are compatible with the motherboard Gibabyte GA-990FXA-UD5, AMD socket AM3 + for working with 1866MHz FSB.

I i was seeing brands like: G.Skill and Patriot Memory, but I can not decide.

my processor is AMD FX8120

GSKill has the best compatibility in my experience.

Their memory works in everything.

You could always go to the Gigabyte website and take a look at their Qualified Vendor List (QVL), Sato, and pick from there. If you do that you will be assured that the memory will be compatible with your board. There is a note on that QVL that states: Only one DIMM per channel is supported for DDR3-1866Mhz and higher speed using an AM3+ CPU. Another option for you would be to visit the NewEgg website and read the reviews on that board to see what the other customers are using. Good luck!

but in the list of reports that are present with the frequency to 1866MHz, I am not convinced I see a little generic. so eh seen some other of the aforementioned chew.

Well to start off, the first product you linked to is an 8GB (4X2GB) kit running at 1.65V that mentions "Only compatible with Intel X79 chipsets" in the Product Features. So don't buy that one. The other 2 kits would work, but 1 DIMM per channel seems to work better for the GA-990FXA-UD5 at higher frequencies and those are 2 DIMMS per channel (4 total.)

My advice:

1) First, decide how many GBs, this is fairly important so we armchair experts of HH aren't comparing apples to toenail clippings.

2) Buy a 2 DIMM DDR3 kit (2X2GB, 2x4GB or 2X8GB) that runs 1866MHz at 1.5V at the lowest latency you can afford.

3) Stick to Patriot, Kingston, Crucial, Corsair or G.Skill. If you find something else, ask. It's probably O.K. too.

4) Don't worry if your kit isn't on a QVL, these lists are notoriously incomplete and outdated. Worry first about the specs in 2).

That sucks. It's always good to ask before you buy.

Your kit looks a lot like the same specs of the Patriot kit I told you not to buy. It makes sense if you're not getting to 1866MHz. Even if you only use half of it and populate one DIMM per channel (see Manual, Page 16) it's still a 1.65V kit. The good news is it's still very good RAM you can sell and buy a 2X4GB or 2X8GB kit that runs 1866MHz at 1.5V. If you want to give Corsair another try, it's the only kit on the QVL I'd recommend. 

But there are a bunch of others that will perform just fine as well.

I'm hoping this solves your problem because there seems to be a bit of a language barrier and the next step would be flashing to the latest BIOS.

I'm honest but imagine not only be able to use the 1866MHz frequency ranueras I only use 2 RAM.

just wanted to jump in here and tell you that I have those exact same sticks from G.Skill   >> F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL  8GB kit 2x4GB  9-10-9-28-CL9 @1.5V installed in a Asus Sabertooth 990 FX mobo with an FX-8150  Working great here &  They would be a very good choice for you too.

those would be a solid choice for Gigabyte  GA-990FXA-UD5 and look to be the same GSkill ram in the link from Amazon you had above.

Hi ,

Grab some utilities like CPU-z to verify clock settings and ram timings, GB has some utilities to adjust the settings as well but you may really want to check the bios settings, because it may not be automatically detecting the timings properly. This is not un-common or a compatibility issue, but just a minor quirk ..

See pg 53 [pdf US version] of your GB GA-990FXA-UD5 manual and Load Optimized defaults after system crash like you had and start with a clean slate and reboot.

In the Bios look at the MB Intelligent Tweaker page and verify the memory speed and DRAM voltage match the GSkill sticks that you have. If not Go to DRAM Configuration page in bios and enter them manually there. Memory Clock at 1866 with 9-10-9-28 2T check DRAM V -1.5..Once you have those memory timings and booting cleanly save them in the Bios !

For Overclocking further you will need to disable all C states, Cool & Quiet and power saving states in BIOS in the Advanced Bios features page. You can begin the OC process by making small adjustment to to the multiplier and you will need to increase Vcore. Make small changes as you go save in bios and test for stability and temps .

Some folks use the AMD Over drive Utility too, and it may be a good idea to look at .pdf doc to better underage how the FX-8120 addresses memory. There are many guides and videos online to OC your GA-990FXA-UD5 with a Bulldozer series cpu and (your results may vary).It is also likely that you may have some fun and find the performance tuning experience rewarding especially when seeing some pretty positive results along the way.

Some guys have been using the latest version of OCCT to stress and test a chip like the FX-8120 the included LinPack generates plenty of heat be sure monitor those temps and keep it below 61C for a reasonable OC performance tune for 24/7 use.

Maybe some of this will help you out. :)

Listen to rrplay and download CPU-Z and post a screen capture of the memory tab.

I don't know what to say anymore if you can't manually set to RAM spec speed. Definitely weird. My apologies if the RAM suggestion doesn't end up solving the problem.

The two RAM modules need to be installed in separate memory channels if you want to run it at 1866MHz, Sato.
