TUL Corporation just recently announced a line of PowerColor graphics cards apparently designed for "enthusiasts only." It's the Vortex II series, which is the nomenclature TUL uses to describe PowerColor cards that feature a deluxe "Platinum Power Kit" design for improved power efficiency, stability, and overclocking ability, along with Vortex II cooling technology. TUL's Vortex II coolers consists of dual adjustable fans with perforated blades intended to optimize airflow and to do a better job at dissipating excessive heat.

There are two new cards as part of the Vortex II series, starting with the Powercolor PCS+ HD7870 Vortex II. This one boasts a core clockspeed of 1120MHz and 2GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 1250MHz on a 256-bit bus. Those are slightly higher clockspeeds than AMD's reference design, which calls for a 1000MHz engine clock and 1200MHz memory clock.

TUL also introduced the PowerColor PCS+ HD7970 Vortex II with an 1100MHz core clockspeed (up from 925MHz on reference cards) and 3GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 1425MHz (up from 1375MHz on reference cards) on a 384-bit bus. Both cards are equipped with multiple output options, including DL-DVI-I, SL-DVI-D, HDMI (x2), and a mini DisplayPort.

No word yet on price or availability.

I can't escapte the feeling that "Enthusiast Only" is market-speak for "Ultra Expensive, but you'll buy it because it sounds exclusive". Enthusiasts would probably want the highest performing chipset of the moment... which is not what these guys are based upon - right?

GTX-680 is the one I want. Can't afford either one of them either.

Nice to see you too Dave. I probably really should be nicer to companies using AMD chipsets... since they are the one company that actually has an open API for their cards and the open driver community. I guess past performance/experience still has me slightly biased against them.
