Samsung Stuffs a Pico Projector into Galaxy Beam Smartphone

Pretty much every modern smartphone on the planet can upload videos to YouTube so you can share those impromptu and/or embarrassing moments caught on camera, but what if you want to relive those comical incidents instantly with a group of offline friends and family? One of your few options is to huddle around your phone's 4+ inch display and put up with Bob's body odor. Samsung thought of a better way.

The new Galaxy Beam from Samsung wields a pico projector rated at 15 lumens so you can watch that gnarly video clip on a nearby wall, the ceiling, or any flat surface you can find.


"Galaxy Beam provides mobile freedom, enabling a unique shared experience around digital content for everyone—anywhere and instantly—from a smartphone as slim and portable as any on the market," said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics

If you take away the pico projector you're still left with a respectable smartphone. The Galaxy Beam features a 4-inch display with a 480x800 resolution, 1GHz dual-core processor, 768MB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, 5MP rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash, 1.3MP front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2000mAh battery, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread running the show.

No word on price or availability.

I cannot edit my post. But what Samsung meant was 6Gbps memory, with the actual size being 786MB ;)

Taking the mobile Netflix streaming app to a whole new level!

This thing can function as a portable theater, could even be used in cars projected against seat backs or roofs and hooked up to audio via blutooth or aux,

That's pretty sick but I wonder how it compares to pico-projectors that accept HDMI from devices with mini HDMI outs

Its the same as the samsung, and youtube integration with hotel booking website, http://www.onlyrooms.com

I've seen an LG cellphone place a projector on it's phone and it's pretty small. Hopefully this should be bigger then the LG's that preceded it. I mean just imagine hosting a movie showing in your backyard with this phone.
