Rotten Apple Thieves Steal 125 iPads from Best Buy

I hope they catch them, either a inside job or a very well planned out move. They must know where are the cameras are and such. Could they look at the past tapes to see any suspicious people scouting the area?

Wow it seems like they should have all the serial numbers on file and would be able to track them if activated but I'm not sure if it works like that. These thieves must have been casing the place for a while or it was an inside job.

It has to be an inside job, their is no way the knew where all the camera's were. If they are smart they will get rid of them to another country, or they had a buyer lined up even before they took it.

Definitely an inside job. I agree BB will have all the serial number on file and I am sure Apple can set something in their database to find them when they are plugged into iTunes.

I hate thievery, and I hope that they're caught and prosecuted.

Best Buy should release about 5 huge Pissed-Off dogs inside the store every night.

Kind of reminds me of something that happened in 2009 also involving Apple products. Shame, hope those people get caught, but that seems ever so increasingly unlikely.

The thing about all this is the retail locations are generally cookie cutter setups, and believe me I have wired an opening location for BB, Lowes, BJ's, Costco, Circuit city, Walmart, Sams's, Dollar tree, Dollar General, Target and on and on. I don't really do it anymore but know exactly how they work on large brick and mortar location specifically there are 2-3-5 setups on almost every store. It does not matter though as all you would have to do is either not look up as you know where there going to be in general or wear a hood. The thing with this though was the time. Whoever did it is most likely a professional criminal or it is an inside job by one individual with some professional criminals. The big thing is though as Taylor say's " that seems ever so increasingly unlikely" as it would most likely cost more than the items are worth to catch them and prosecute them.

I'm sure Apple could use the MAC addresses too.

Sounds like an inside job. While it may take more money to catch and prosecute them it still will send out a message that they or future criminals aren't above the law.

At least no one was shot for them. You guys are right that they probably won't catch them and this is just another reason why companies have insurance.

That's crazy, something like that happened locally where I live at a Best Buy as well with Apple Products.

On a stormy night (as cliche sounding as it is) during hurricane season there was a small tropical storm passing through the city where I live (It's called McAllen on the southernmost tip of Texas an hour away from the the gulf of mexico) the wind and rain and elements of the weather caused a power outage and there was about 200 iPods and Apple products stolen from a Best Buy near my house in a similar fashion to this and the video posted by Taylor Karras.

Although that was more of an opportunistic theft in my opinion, I have to agree with everyone else that this was an inside job or done by professionals who had been scouting out the place for a while

That sucks. I'm pretty sure Best Buy has insurance for theft cases like this one.

Sound like an inside tracked job with a well planned getaway .. I do hope they catch and prosecute them too , but something tells me that the 'loot' was already fenced and sold at this time.Too hot to handle & also not sure if any tracking info from serial numbers will assist with the apprehension of the crooks.

The real bummer is that stores employ's prob wont get a bonus because of the loss of merchandise.

Haha - those thieving numnuts (and their 'customers') are sure to get busted once those 125 iPads start connecting to the Internet! "Whatdya mean my new $100 iPad is stolen?!!!"

This is shocking that the thief could do their job so effectively, but this should serve as a warning to all retailers that 125 of your favorite products might disappear if  they are not properly protected. few will forget how they lost over five thousand dollars in merchandise in a only a few hours. It is sad to think that they would steal these items but we look forward to justice and try to trust our tired legal system.

I forgot, but don't Apple devices have a certain ID which Apple is able to lockdown in case it is reported as stolen?
