Need help with Power Supply Unit, Which is right one for single video card and little overclocking? (Any brand with 80 Plus up to gold)

I want to know if  650 to 750 Watts ( any watts between 650 to 750 Watts) That one will work with some extra power for overclocking  and need be more stable and plenty of power to handle. If anyone who has or can tell me what is best PSU that i need and able to run on single video card. Thanks for your help .

It may be a bit more helpful if you shared the cpu / gpu and other specs because you may actually be looking at an 850 W PSU for the added headroom along with a budget chassis etc, Some vid cards do not draw as much power as others and you will appreciated the added headroom of a high quality clean PSU like this

let us know a bit more and some budget info depending on your rig and OC plans  you may need to go a bit higher also if you want to get a modular PSU at 160.00 and up you should 

 plenty of sharp folks here with  PSU stuff .

let us know some specs and we can go from there

oh yeah no doubt about it ..we have seen the Seasonic 850W easily power and SLI Nvidai rig from Maingear recently with 2 580s no sweat.The Seasoncis just provide clean power.& definitely outclasses other 750W 80 plus PSUs. I recall neil using the 650 W Seasonics as well with very good results in single GPU builds

I got your relay. I took a look at PSU, it is 675 Watts and 750 Watss both  of them  from Themetake. It sell for $120.00. It is close to 700 Watts. I did took watt of power from CPU addition to OC and rest of stuff. It did tell me it is close to 500 Watts total of power.One from Corsair tell me that i need up to 750 Watts too. So what do you think?

I am try to find cheap cost as possible (like on sale or best deal). Corsair is bit more cost than Themetake. I used this PSU from Themetake before and has Corsair VX450 in my Pentium 4 PC. Both is good one that never failed on me.

Got your relay. Thank for your info. Corsair is best one. and some other PSU is alright. I always read all review and see what they had to say about PSU. (Like higher than 50% is best in review and low like 25% is bad)  For GPU (video card Radeon 6850 1 GB DDR with GDDR5 at 775MHz and memeroy at 4 GHz)  Any brand company build on same base on Radeon 6850,  like Visiotek, XFX, Sapharie,,AMD,HIS,, PowerColor, and etc. All is same based on Radeon 6850 in different color..  FYI I has my Visiontek Radeon X850XT. It still hold on own and never had problem with it for 3 to 4 years now. I will take another look at PSU again. I know you said 750 is best one for best performance and more stable.

hey Mike thanks for getting back with your input, which is most helpful.This is really a very good time to evaluate a bit of both the GPU and PSU for purchase.I do not agree that all the 6850 are the same from different manufacturers.Some have twin fans, some supply different packaging cables etc, as well as different lengths..Check the manufacturer web page for spec esp length !

Some folks may prefer a dual fan design as opposed to a rather closed "standard' design.Good idea to consider your chassis airflow and how the card is going to fit along with the supplied power connections to make this upgrade go sweet 'n smoooth. Might as well see if a possible chassis fan upgrade is an option when placing the order.

Hey Rrplay, Thanks for your relay. I did look at Seasonic  650 and 750 Watts is sound good to because of 80 Plus Gold. I will go with either of them. I read many good review about that PSU from Seasonic. You are right about Seasonoice is very clean and save lot $$$ on elec bill.. Also, I did looked at few mild tower (less 20 inches tall. that way will fit my desk. One i really like Cooler Master HAF 912 and 922. 912 is standrad and cost about $60.00  other one 922 is about $100.00. Both is good size that able fit big video card like 6860 also lucky there is HD cage removal to give a more room for long video card. I'll let you know what my decide on PSU later. Little note about the chassis ..some of those CM cases may have an option for you to purchase an extra fan that's not included so if you have any other questions about the chassis,GPU,PSU etc. or just want to drop in an hang ...anytime man

Hey Rrplay, I want to ask you about Radeon 6790 video card. Maybe i can make a opation on Radeon 6790 and 6850. Radeon 6790 video card seem few inches shorter than 6850. the power load top at 150 watts and idle at 19 watts.on Radeon 6790  vs 127 watts/ and idle at 19 watts  on 6850. I did look at HIS and Powercolor Radeon 6790 has one 6 pin plug in. They sell for $140.00. on Newegg.com.  I did read the reviews about that 6790. As you know that I was planning to get Radeon 6850 but it cost about $150 to 170.00  . Radeon 6790 is good for mild to high range game. I don't  play very high performance game.but I only play a  mild range. What do you think? And any idea? thanks for your help.

hey Mike the 6790 will certainly play many of your games quite well as you mentioned as for length that depends if it will fit your chassis or if you are considering another one.as previously mentioned

...since you mentioned some info regarding a chassis in a previous post and you may be considering an upgraded chassis, ,PSU ,GPU, let us know your budget.

Rrplay, Thanks for your replay I was think that i might go with 6850 model because  low watts (127 Watts). I did read this review about 6850 and was very impressed with its performance. And I am think about go with mild range  PSU  675 Watts with 80 Plus Brozne  from Thermeltake (it is close to 700 watts) and it should be fine with little OC on 990X . It is still low cost at $120.00 or possible go with Seasonic X650 with 80 Plus Gold. I am still think about  it. Anyway, have a great day!  Thanks for your time to wrote back to me.  (P.S. heya Mike ,,thanks for the nice words they are much appreciated ..the only thing i can mention when deciding on the PSU is not to second guess the extra $20 bucks or so.same true for the GPU  .maybe think of rebate $$$ as pizza & brew  OC / gaming night ? heck treat yourself and your rig

some guys around here had a couple of Newegg gift cards saved for such occasions similar  as to what you are building [hint]

anyhow thought newegg and others may have had some better deals on some of this stuff.over the holidays >>

Update: I did order CM HAF 912 mild tower, Themeltake XT 675 Watts 80 Plus bronze, HIS Radeon 6850 ICE Q (more cooler than normal) , Win 7 Pro with SP1,  and  Sony DVD RW drive. Now i'm ready to build it but need wait for few days the shipping will arrive to my house.  Anyhoo. I want to Thanks to all guys to help me with all hardware that i was asked  few questions about it. I knew this place is good to talk or get help with stuff.
