From June 13 - 16, 2011, the first AMD Fusion Developer Summit, or AFDS, is being held at the Maydenbauer Center in Bellevue, Washington. According to AMD, attendees of the inaugural AMD Fusion Developer Summit “will have direct access to pioneers in heterogeneous computing, software developers, and top minds at AMD for learning opportunities and open dialogue on heterogeneous computing and the enhanced performance and processing efficiencies it enables.”

Sound like fun? It sure does to us and we’d love to take a few of you along with us, so AMD has made it possible for team HotHardware to bring along 60 of our friends to the very first AFDS! Before we explain how to grab your free pass—valued at $300—here are a few more details about the event...

WHAT YOU WILL DO AT AFDS: Learn. Get a deeper understanding of technology. Collaborate with thought leaders. Attend 3 visionary AFDS Keynotes, 90+ sessions, 7 Pre-Summit Tutorials, a variety of networking experiences, and much more.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Everyone who wants a glimpse of AMD’s plans. Everyone who recognizes that the tech world – including industry-leading software companies and ODMs – is interested in APU technology. Everyone who wants to unleash the potential of this next-generation technology in their current and future developments.

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND: You should attend for in-depth training on heterogeneous computing, AMD Fusion APU architecture, OpenCL, Microsoft DirectCompute, and more. You should attend to get direct access to AMD tech leaders, industry experts, and academics from around the world. You should attend because you know the only way to thrive in this industry is to be at the forefront of the tech current, not following it.

  • Tickets are valued at $300, and we’re giving away 25 of them. If you want a free pass, HH is the only place to get it.
     
  • Winners will get a free registration code – Use that code to register on the AFDS site, and badges, etc. will be waiting at the event.
     
  • Winners will have to take care of hotel and travel on their own. Road trip!

As a big AMD fan I'd love to go, but I'm on the wrong coast. Still, this is an awesome opportunity. I can't believe you guys pulled this off. Congrats to those lucky enough to go!

I understand that you're pissed about the AMD Professional Graphics Card that you bought, because you've voiced it in the past. I feel for you too.

But, even though I prefer my NVIDIA cards because of their PhysX capabilities, (did I say that I really like PhysX?) my XFX Radeon HD-6870 Black video card is a fine performer. I've had no driver issues, and nothing but rock solid performance out of it,.....even though it's installed into a low powered budget system. So for gamers, the choice isn't as clear cut as it is for you, Tom.

I never had many problems with ATI on the gaming side either. Also their prices cant be beat.  For gaming, either one is great when paired with their perspective companion CPU's, (ATI/AMD-Nvidia/Intel)
 
What got me, is their response to their business practices and the correspondence with regards to the driver issues and other compatibility issues. Once they know that you have bought their product then that is it. Its kinda like, "you just got played, thanks for playing!"  On the gaming side we all expect to go through a new GPU about every year and half. When you get a pro-card too actually make those games, you don't expect it to be incapable of running the current standard shader three months after you buy it? then have the company respond with "Thank you, come again!"
 
I know that Nvida really relies on the interaction with the pro-GPU market, which translates down to the gaming cards and truly understand that correlation. Kinda like how tech development on a Formula one car translated down to the consumer market, so keep your drivers happy and interact with any problems they encounter.
 
On many of my last posts, I have shown you guys what their responses were to some of the issues I faced within the viewports. Not much has changed since then. I feel since AMD took over ATI, they are now all aboot the flashy presentation rather than the customer and making the best product they can and standing behind that. This card is actually really good at playing games but as a workstation card, I have not noticed much difference.  When they try to tout the capabilities of the workstation cards, all I see is scenes that are setup to look flashy and not High-poly HDR mapped real world uses being presented?
 
So yeah for gamers it is better to save a few bucks, so you can buy a new one next year. Everyone knows that my next card is going to be an Nvidia Quadro. I just thought it was funny to poke fun at their little tagline, "to learn and better understand!" The irony was to much to resist :P

wow thats only 2 hours away from me... Might have to go to this one, problem is, I don't know if I'd understand any of it. Definitely learn some things though

Sorry Dave, I felt that I had to throw in a plus for AMD after Tom posted. (I've always had a soft spot for them considering that they're up against the BORG and still totally relevant too)

It IS a cool thing for them to offer us invites to their show, and I do wish that I could go,......but the logistics, starting with just getting there, aren't possible for me. I look forward to seeing your write-ups after you get back.

Most generous of AMD to make the offer exclusively to HH with those passes.Wish I was able to get away to go Nothing can actually compare to the experience of being there.and pretty sure sure the event will be well covered.Always wanted to go to the state of WA. the road trip adventure would be a bonus.All those fortunate enough to go have a great time and please let us know.

Too bad this is not for 2012, my wife and I are going up the west coast on vacation next year. Not to sure if she would like it but I sure would. She could just go to the mall and I could get my tech on...................Oh well ya'll enjoy

I reallly really want to go, but i doubt ill have time. Im really busy looking for a summer internship right now. Its awesome that HH can give tickets away though, i thought most of these events were entirely closed to the general public.

I became a fan of HotHardware on Facebook and then I shared this post and sent an email to amd.tickets@hothardware.com with my email address but that was almost a week ago on June 1st and I haven't heard anything back with information on how to register.

Rofl I noticed a bit of a ATI vs Nvidia debate, man I remember those from the old days, people defended and attacked either with the same ferocity as opposing religions. I love both cards, had some good experiences and bad from both sides :) hmmm Fusion sounds cool
