What? I'm starting a riot?

What the Tech? has got to be the lamest lame Dave, Marco or Iiaz could ever pick. I mean what about us who generated names that actually have to do with hardware or overclocking or a covert meaning in overclocking. FreeJet has come up with 1 or 2 really cool names. The rest are puns I mean "Drop it Like It's Hot", "Three The Tech Way?" I had to think of my names instead of using some cheating skillless algorithm that comes up with names like that. It's like you were just suggesting names and throwing them up on a wall, hoping they would stick.

I was right in my prediction that you would win, I thought that it wouldn't happen but apparently you did. What's worse is that I remember you promoting some company called DigitalStorm in one of your posts, what's worse is that a spammer like you won, a spammer who didn't contribute in any of the conversations here. I posted day and night in conversations trying to get noticed, I thought of names instead of generating them, what happened to the hard work? It got thrown out the window that's what happened.

Also, what is the name "What the Tech?" supposed to mean. I mean it'd work for a podcast about weird gadgets but it's just three people talking about hardware from the past week, not about weird gadgets or where you trying to refer to the tree as weirdos? Anyway, the name of the podcast is supposed to indicate the content, HotCast or Weekly Meltdown or Afterburner would of worked but this, this does not work at all, and this is just my opinion. At least this "FreeJet1" appeared out of the blue and won a system, that is the first time I have seen this happen on HotHardware.

tl;dr. "What the Tech?" is a horrible name, I think "FreeJet's" win is undeserved and I feel like Dave & Marco didn't look hard at our names.

I do express sportsmanship but to have a member not contribute in any way after entering the contest, not be a part of the community and then suddenly be a part of the community after winning the contest, it just riles me up.

...Wow!...Thanks, HotHardware. I will certainly post photos after I get it and set it up.

I'm glad you're doing that... Also try to post more often, I'm sure you'll like it here.

Also Dave, Marco, why did you choose "What the Tech" out of all the other entries?

Good Idea,....how about a 'build-log' series of posts?

____________________________________

Taylor,  As you go through life, there's gonna be many a time when you don't agree with other people's decisions. While it's true that you do have a right to question such things, as someone else pointed out, it's bad form to do so in a public venue.  A simple private message to Dave and Marco would have been a much smarter move. I think that you have to learn to deal with your life's disappointments without barking at those around you if you're ever going to get along in the 'sandbox' of life.

So it seems that you're disappointed that you didn't win this PC. While I feel for you, (a little) I also think that if it hadn't been "What The Tech" that won it there was a good chance that another one of FreJet's posts would have carried the day. I assumed that it was going to be him that won it this time around.

You commenting during the contests on the merits of other people's posts is cool, but picking them apart and questioning them is not unless you're adjudicating for Dave and Marco.

The thing to remember is that if you don't hit this time, the chances for it to happen eventually on this site are good. Getting pissed off and criticizing the winning decision publicly for all to see may only be poisoning the waters for you in future contests. Nobody likes a sore loser.

Lastly, I'd like to apologize to you for trying to school you about this subject, you're not my kid and I really have no place trying to reason with you. (I'm trying to help you to understand) But I felt like it had to be said by SOMEBODY and I'm old enough now to not give a crap what people think of me. At your age you don't yet have that luxury.

RealNeil

As I said on the other contest thread, Congratulations to you FreeJet.

Enjoy the new system that you've won.

Is this a speed test? I got the program and ran it and took a snapshot of the results using my i5-750 system.

I just don't know how to read the results yet. And I don't know if I should toss this PC out the window or not. (kidding)

So here's the results,..............

@TaylorKarras - We picked it because we liked it, plain and simple. There was obvioulsy a lot of thought and effort put into many of the entries, by everyone that participated, but in the end we have to give the prize to the person who sudmitted the name we picked. Doesn't matter if they joined just for this contest and posted only once, or if he / she was a regular with thousands of posts. I wish we could give away multiple systems to others for their effort alone, but we can't. I just wish instead of having sour grapes, calling people lame, and casting dispersions, you could have just congratulated the winner gracefully like everyone else.

There will be plenty more contests around here anyway.

This is not about the PC, this is about the name okay? I'm getting negative flack because of my criticisms of a name choice.

I'll stop posting this publically because I'm getting negative flack and "bad sportmanship" from this.

Well guess what folks (and Taylor you can chill out now Smile ), we're actually NOT going with the title "What The Tech," due to possible trademark conflicts with another company. Also, we have a name in mind that we ARE going forward with. HOWEVER, we very much think more than one of FreeJet's submissions, "Siliconverstations" for one, were very much worthy and he had some great ideas, so of course the winner selection does NOT change.  Cool You'll have to wait until Friday for our new webcast name though!  We'll unveil it then!

And THANKS to all who entered. There were some great entries out there!

Dave: If SiliconVersations does win then I might be happier and I might actually congratulate the winner. That is one of the best names FreeJet has some up with.

If 'SiliConversations' does win,.....

He didn't say it was going to be that name. What he said was that FreeJet had a lot of good idea's and that he wins the computer anyways!! (absolutely cool by the way)

They had already chosen his submission, announced it, and then a stinking trademark issue came up.

I think it shows a hell of a lot of class that they gave him the PC anyway.

Dave, Marco, WOW!

That would suck to find out you had a sick computer taken away.

Cool that he is still getting the rig.

LOL, fat78, do you really think we'd do that? We thought through things for a while on this before making a winner selection. It's why it took us so long to go through all the entries too.

As far as it all goes I am actually surprised you finished as quickly as you did really. There were a lot of entries, and this is not just finding a good name, but one that is not trademarked as well as one you like for your Podcast.

Yes it IS a speed test, and 11.085 is very fast, indeed! It will be interesting to see how AMD's fastest CPU in FreeJet's new rig handles Super Pi 1M.

So if my first test was 11.085 and after some tweaks, I got a score of 11.022, the 11.022 score is faster? (we're trying to compute this as fast as possible?)

Yes, the goal is to get the fastest time, as measured in seconds. As you make your tweaks (increasing the frequency, tightening the RAM timings, etc.) you should see your time get faster. Super Pi is a great tool! If you push your overclocking too far Super Pi will balk or generate an error message and you will need to dial it back. You can also use Super Pi to help you undervolt your processor. Remember how hot those old Pentium 4 CPU's ran? Using Super Pi as a guide, I was able to both overclock and undervolt my old P4 at the same time, making it faster while running significantly cooler!

Super Dave:
Yes, the goal is to get the fastest time, as measured in seconds.

So my i5-750 does it quicker than the i7-870 does. Surprise

The ASRock board that the i5 is installed into does an 'auto' OC in BIOS making the 2.6GHz. CPU run @ 3.8GHz. (and it's stable too)

The i7 is running 3.3GHz. to 3.6GHz. now and does PI slower,...but the i7 does Video encoding much faster than the i5 does. (I think it has to do with the additional four threads the i7 CPU has) The i7 is installed into an Intel DP55KG Board and as such, does not OC too well.

There's no visible difference in the gaming aspect of the two computers, but I have 22" screens with 1680X1050 (native) resolution so they're not straining along those lines.
