Good Morning Everyone!
It's a beautiful day here. I'm gonna be working on my Tacoma 4X4 today, doing all the service shtuff you do before a road trip. (taking it on a trip to Pennsylvania this weekend)
I read a little about Intel IDF party going on in 'Frisco right now. They're showcasing some cool technology. Also, I heard rumors that AMD was staging their own little demonstration of Zacate just a few doors down from Intel's party too. We live in interesting times and it's only going to get more interesting as time goes on.
you guys flip a coin to see who got to go ? lol
fat78: you guys flip a coin to see who got to go ? lol
No, they flipped a CPU... :D

Maybe it's a case of who HAD to go.
I woulda liked to go. lol
Almost time to find out who wins.

Yeah, but the only problem is that they keep giving you free stuff, so you get weighted down as the day goes on. It's terrible.
Yeah, that must be...rough.
One of my sons is a Network Administrator for a large Insurance company based out of Las Vegas. He's lived there for many years. He gets invited to all of the technology/computer trade shows that go on there. I think that one or two of them in that town are rather large events.
Anyway, my wife, (the English Teacher) needed about 60 USB flash drives for her students to use for storing homework and writing at the High School last year. She had me looking online for the best deal for one or two Gig models. I happened to mention this to my son and he sent us 57 of them, 2, 4, 8, and 16GB drives,......and all of them with different logos printed on them. They were all handed to him at those shows. We had to go through them to clear the demonstration software off of many of them before we could pass them out to the kids.
He says that they also used to give lots of free software out to people randomly.
nothin like a convention for some free stuff. The problem is usually you dont want it!
^Thats funny realneil. And thats cool that the school provides that stuff(or in this case, your son). In Portland right now some schools are so strapped for cash they are cancelling P.E.!
lifeskills:thats cool that the school provides that stuff
Actually the school is in dire straights and can't afford enough computers/laptops for the kids to use during the day.
My wife has access to one of the two "Laptop Carts" twice a week per class,....and it's not always in the best of shape when they roll it into her room. So we provided the flash drives for the kids to be able to take their work home to work on, or to the county library (limited too) and be able to save it for her to look at on her work PC. It helps to make the technology part work for the kids. They need as much as they can get to prepare them for this crazy world that they've been born into.
I also built three very low end XP desktop machines out of spare parts and old customer's computers and put them into her room for the kids to use. They all have old copies of Office on them. They work. The school almost didn't let her put them in there, but some of the parents raised the roof when the kids told them, and the administration relented. Some of the kids in this very rural part of Virginia don't have a lot of resources at home. People are just scraping by.
Woops, misread that. I didn't realize that yall were paying for the drives, and not the school. Thats very generous of you and your wife, also to donate computers.
