Asus Reveals 10" And 12" EeePad Tablet PCs

Rumors had been flying for quite some time that Asus would soon be getting directly into the Tablet PC realm, and if there were ever a company suited to rival Apple's iPad, it's probably the company that came up with the netbook. They seem to know what consumers want from a portable computer, so why not try their hand at a slate? Today, they are. Asus followed their EeeTablet with the EeePad, and there's good news for those who think the iPad is too small: the EeePad will ship in two sizes, a 10" model and a 12" model.

These tablet PCs looks identical except for additional screen real estate on the 12" version, with both running on Core 2 Duo CULV processors from Intel, Windows 7 and having a USB port. The 10" EP101TC (Embedded Compact version of Win7) and 12" EP121 (Win7 Home Premium) are both capable of handling Office documents, and both will feature glossy, capacitive touch panels with a user interface that looks like a cross between Android the JooJoo UI.


Asus also introduced a clever docking station for these devices, which allows them to sit horizontally in front of a foldable keyboard stand and basically turn right into a notebook. More details are coming in the next few months, with initial price tags set at around $400 to $500. Unfortunately, the first EeePad isn't expected to ship until early next year.
