Fusion Garage hasn't had the easiest time getting their JooJoo tabletout of the door, but no one ever said it was easy being a startup. Thecompany whose tablet used to be known as the CrunchPad is finallyshipping out, but only to customers who pre-ordered one from thebeginning. We heard that units would begin shipping last month, butthat date obviously slipped; still, it's pretty impressive to thinkthat the JooJoo is shipping out before the iPad.

Pre-ordered units are leaving Asia now, and they should be distributedin America soon. If you have forgotten, the unit includes a 7" touchpanel, Flash 10.1 support, a rechargeable battery and a $499 price tag.If you'd rather spend your dollars on a non-Apple tablet, there aren'tany better options currently shipping; you can get your order in now,and it should ship within a few days to weeks after all the pre-orderfolks get their own.

New joojoo orders can be placed at https://thejoojoo.com/storeat a cost of $499 USD. With its easy to use user interface, joojooallows users to tap into Internet applications, news, music, highdefinition video, social media and Web services. Thedevice boasts the largest capacitive touch screen of any device on themarket, measuring 12.1 inches in length. joojoo is Flash 10.1 and Javacompliant and comes equipped with a built-in, rechargeablelithium-polymer battery.

Lets see? Unproven company? Unproven operating system? Price tag similar to IPad?

OK, whats not to love.

Once again, things like this seem to be Americas greatest export. The concept and Ideas of future technologies. Only problem is, since we send the manufacturing all over the world. It is not like they have to pay to copy the designs.

To me these are like those people in Africa or Russia, who use an address here. Then get you to ship your auction products with fake Pay-Pal invoices. This would be more interesting if they actually came up with something different than the Ipad. I could give you some examples, but since Ideas are the richest commodity going, I am sure someone is monitoring right now trying to look for new ideas to call their own :O

i hope the JooJoo does well. It would be nice to see someone else in this space. Also the system does run some flavor of Linux and has full Flash and Java support. It would be really nice if they make it easy to upgrade the version of Java or Flash as new vulnerabilities are found, I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this but they have to be able to stick around first.

>> Unproven operating system?

It's running Linux - so the kernel at least is plenty proven.

Please get your facts straight. The JooJoo has a 12.1 inch display, not 7 inches as reported here. It's considerably largert than the iPad and will play Flash video.

This looks really cool and the Flash support shouldn't even be a plus. The fact that the iPad lacks it is a total deal breaker for me. I have the iPod Touch and I can almost understand it on such a small device, though it still annoys me from time to time, but on a full size tablet, really Apple?

I still want the Lenovo U1 though. It is coming out this summer. http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/lenovo-ideapad-u1-hybrid-hands-on-and-impressions/
