CES 2010 was the reason I couldn't get a good deal at the Wynn Las Vegas during the first week of January...
where did you guys end up staying?
I'm most looking forward to the Dell's Multi-touch Studio 17 Notebook.
BTW, did I read that correctly the new Qosmio features "either a Core i5 or Core i7 under the hood and up to an NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M for your gaming pleasure."
The Dell has that GPU to, looks like that will be common fare this year if two of the big boys are ruuning that setup, The reason I say this is because the components for a laptop setup are quite minimized compared. The whole time I was watching that video I was waiting for Trent Reznor to start singing.
That huge 3D touch screen is really cool thats what they should use in subway stations malls and in big downtown areas shilded for weather where needed of course.
yep, you read that right Gibbs!

Thanks, I feel like I missed out on a ton these past couple of weeks!
Here's more info on the GTS 360M from Nvidia's page for those interested:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_gts_360m_us.html
Oh wait, found this in an article from last week:
"None of the seven new GeForce 300M GPUs are based on the upcoming Fermi architecture, it’s kinda embarrassing for NVIDIA that these chips are still limited to DirectX 10 while ATI will soon unveil the first notebook GPUs with DirectX 11 support."
And then this:
"There wasn't any fanfare accompanying the release of Nvidia's first GeForce 300M series graphics processors this week, and there's good reason for that. The flagship GPU in the new 300M series -- the GTS 360M -- sports the same number of cores (96), same bus width (128-bit) and same memory clock (2GHz) as the GTS 260M, although the 360M is capable of processing slightly more gigaflops (413 versus 396)."
It seems Nvidia just rebranded the 260M... What's the point of getting a laptop with the 300M series, when ATI mobile 5000 supports DirectX 11? The ATI Mobile 5650 offers 572 Gflops of performance vs the GTS 360M's 413.
they rebrand all the time
You're right, but with the release of ATI's own mobile cards, I don't know if this will pan out.
That said, Qosmio and Dell have signed up to receive the 360M so I guess it has worked in Nvidia's favor to some extent.
Wish I could get out to one of the CES conventions, or an E3 for that matter. Maybe if we all ask real nice the Hot Hardware guys could make a contest and score the lucky winner some tickets for next years. =D
Oh yeah I am not really cutting down nvidia. Usually one of the rebrands is done because they scaled down the NM or memory, changed power thresholds and or multiple things. They just still run the same core. Either way the performance line generally goes up sometimes quite a bit.
Yeah EnigmaCypher7 that would be a nice contest. I would definitely like to go to CES next year. I wonder if there going to the big one in Germany in the spring. It is usually the largest convention even over CES.
Yeah, I just got really excited when I read Nvidia 360M. Anyway, it seems Nvidia's reserving the 380M for Fermi and DirectX 11 so that's something to hold on to.
But having such a convention in Las Vegas, wow, what a scene it must have been. I remember calling the Wynn in November asking them about their room rates in January and I got the response that due to an "engineering" convention, they're mostly sold out. I figured out later that they were talking about CES 2010.
I wonder if I could have seen a lot of the booths and just grab someone else's badge at the entrance like in the movie, "Up in the Air".
And I love this NiN song, Gibbs, though it's so very wrong... heh. We definitely had to go with the instrumental version!
Yeah it is strong , but I know it by heart to so everytime it reached the crescendo where he starts singing I was expecting it. I would imagine you would also get sued if you did not use the instrumental.
Hmm... interesting idea.
I totally want that Republic of Gamers PC, so awesome looking. Can anyone tell me what that Cooler Master cooling unit was?
Also that huge multi-touch display is awesome. I wish I had the resources to be able to run those Eyefinity displays too, so cool!
So what is this fascination with girls with animal paint?
I was wondering about that too.
Also, is the Asus Eee a computer in a keyboard?
You know you want to.....(=P)
I think it's a netbook but they use the Eee for several things I believe
@gibber's animal girls
wtf? lol that is messed up.
Yeah, they're using the same designation for their Asus Eee Keyboard.
It has a 5 inch touchscreen, 1.6GHz Atom N270, 1GB memory, and a 16 GB SSD drive. It also has WiDi to send your display out to a TV screen or other monitor. Essentially it's like a keyboad-all-in-one, lol. It's a really cool idea and given more powerful hardware, I can see it becoming a mainstay in some media centers.
Just imagine coming home from work and sitting on your recliner and instead of going for the remote you reach for your keyboard instead!
