HotHardware and TechVi Video Podcast No. 3We sit down with our buddies from TechVi, to talk graphic cards and Nettops this time around. First on the list? ATI's gigantic Radeon 5970, which other than topping performance charts, also tips the price scales more than most cards. On the lower end of the spectrum, we break down a new card from Zotac which is a low-power unit capable of fitting in well to a home theater setup without breaking the bank or a sweat. Also, Adobe has added hardware acceleration support in its latest build of Flash, which is perfect for lower-end computers to play back hi-def Flash content. Finally, MSI has come out with a desktop that fits that mold really well, with a touchscreen, Nvidia ION chipset, and weighs in at about $750. Check the show for the full details.

Another good episode.

Let's hope Adobe gets off their hands and releases 10.1 for 64-bit Linux soon (they've only released the 32-bit version).  I've been using the previous 64-bit beta for a while and it works great (Hulu's completely smooth, even fullscreen 1920x1080).

Sadly, they did not enable the H.264 video acceleration in the Linux 10.1 beta.  It would be quite ironic if Moonlight incorporates that feature first.

I don't know of the timing, but I'm sure all that is coming.  There's just too many compute resources sitting idle in the GPU most times to let it go to waste, especially with something like video processing...

Yeah... and the cool thing is that with nVidia and AMD license the patents for h264, open source apps can just offload the decoding to the GPU without the authors getting sued for releasing free software that works with the codec.

Encoding's a different story though, which is why it's not my favorite codec. :\
