Sounds like you'd need an X58-based motherboard and a Core i7 processor.  Asus, Gigabyte and MSI all make some great X58 boards. As for the CPU, just buy the fastest Core i7 you can afford.

There are some more questions that need to be answered. Like AMD or Intel.  If Intel lga775 or I7 and yes I know I7 is newer doesnt mean that there still isnt some LGA 775 cpus that couldnt do what you want. Also how many gpus you want to run and do you want slots for audio or a network card cause now days they are filling up the board with PCI express 2.0 x16 slots you have no room for anything else when you had multiple dual slot video cards. These are just some questions that need to be answered.

Hi there..

By reading reviews on triple / quad gpu there isnt much difference on just dual..
So what I had in mind was only DUAL SLI - GEFORCE :-  GTX-295 x 2..

Sound and networks all onboard..

That what i have in mind.

I would have to agree with Marco the X58 series boards for intels are bout the extreme for them right now. And any mnaufacturer would be a good one that he listed. Just preference from you really.

No computer is going to be truly future proof.

Edit: Removed info the LGA1156 and LGA1366 sockets that may be misleading, see post below.

Money is not the problem.. according to what you are saying if im not mistaken 1366 is better than 1156 right.

Not that I know of, they both support 1333 MHz memory.

Check that, I just rechecked and the next generation of chips (i9 "Gulftown") will still use the LGA1366 socket.

So if you are going top of the line, price is no object, then get a LGA1366 MoBoard and Core i7-975 Extreme Edition CPU.

Thats what I had in mind as you alreadt know there is so much out there hard to decide.. Is AMD better that INTEL... My point of view and a little research I think Intel is a little ahead in tech..

So what manufacture should I go with..
Also require a Tower for this to fit, must be fan & watercooling compatible.. Cant decide.

Currently AMD chips compare well with the Intel Core2 Quad chips and from the HH i5 review, have some similar numbers to the i5. Intel seems to score higher in gaming benchmarks though. Intel also has the Core i7's which AMD has no competition for, which can be seen in their price (high price). So for the needs you've stated, is why I suggested what I did before.

I'm not sure what to suggest for a case, as I've only ever used air cooling.

As an EE, I'm not that confident in my pipe fitting skills and don't like wet electronics.

Personally, I prefer to buy AMD due to price to performance ratio and to promote competition.

Future proof is a nice concept but in practice hard to achieve. They come out with new stuff all of the time. When they release i9 to us, one may fit into your board, but i9 may have a capability that only the newest boards made THEN have on them. (think: Sata-3, USB 3.0 or4.0)

So you would want the new board anyway to keep up with the Jones'.

Just buy the best that you can afford to get now.

Use It until it will not do what you want it to.

Then look at new.
