hello,

I recently formatted my laptop and now my system won't recognize any of the drivers I try to install. The installation seems to be successful except that the driver is not used by the system when it is supposed to. Any advice on what to do? I have windows xp pro installed on my laptop. I have checked the drivers for my machine and they are the correct ones. I can't connect to the internet on my laptop because I haven't gotten to installing the wifi and lan driver and can't run driverdetective either.

First make sure you are logged in with an account with admin privileges, the accounts you create after logging in tend to be limited accounts. if you create the user account during setup it should be an administrative one.

If you recently formatted the drive and started over from scratch you could have a corrupt install. It probably wouldn't hurt to install XP again over the current install. maybe after doing that you'll be able to install the drivers and do the endless windows updates. might want to download XP SP3 separately and start by installing that once you get an install where you can install drivers.

Where are you installing them FROM? Like a CD or flash drive....? After you attempt the install does dvc manager still see an "unknown" device (yellow question mark) or is it having trouble "starting" the device (yellow exclamation point)

It's Ok. I've managed to install all the drivers. I didn't know how to tell the system where they were located but now I do and my machine is running perfectly. In addition to that, I installed a software from intel.com that made everything a lot easier The software directed the OS on where to find the drivers for the hardware, thereby, replacing the need to make the system recognize the hardware by the user.

Thankyou both for your consideration. :)
