do I need an internal modem to get online with a pc?
I am building a gaming rig and I need to know what parts I need besides the CPU, Mobo, Video card, HD, RAM, ODD and Case
I dont think I need a sound card becuase one comes on the mobo.

There is no stupid questions around here unless of course I ask one LOL! You dont need a phone modem unless you are going to use dial up.If your into gaming and doing it online then you need a network card which in most cases these days are built into the motherboard and that would be the route I would take! Dail up really sucks and would just totally dis satisfy your online experiance![:'(]

As AMD said - there are no stupid questions here.
You only need an internal modem if you're using dial-up. If you're going to use DSL or Cable, they will generally have a separate external modem - to which you will connect via USB or Ethernet (both of which are included on just about any motherboard you can find nowadays).
You will also need a power supply, if your case does not come with one. Most cases that include PS's include cheap (quality) PS's.
As you surmised, most on-board sound is fine for most users (unless you're a musician).
