Please help! New CPU installed and now computer won't post

Hi all,

I just bought an AMD Phenom II X4 940, which shows here as compatible with my GA-M68SM-S2 board:

I installed the CPU and now my computer won't post. I upgraded the BIOS using @BIOS, as described in the board's manual and then rebooted, went into the bios and selected "Load Optimized Settings" or whatever, but it still won't work. When my old CPU is in, no issues; as soon as I put in the new CPU, the computer won't post. Any suggestions or do I assume something is wrong with this CPU?

Just looked into in further and apparently this cpu won't work on my board, even though they list it on their compatibility list.

Hey red I would contact whoever you bought that board from ASAP. Get a free replacement that will work with it shouldn’t be much of an issue. That is if you used a reputable retailer (which is one reason I have used Newegg for years now) it should be pretty quick. I remember the first or second MB I bought from the egg had similar problems. It was of course replaced within 3 days with free shipping to.
