Long time regulars here know two things about me:  I'm a Linux zealot, I spent most of a year writing haikus in anticipation of the Ostendo monitor, I like to post while drinking, and I can't count.

In case you're not familiar with the Ostendo monitor - it's a 43" curved display, mainly aimed at gaming.  AlienWare and NEC both showed off their own versions at CES 2008, promising delivery in 4q 2008 (which didn't happen).

So fast forward to the present:  I was just now doing some browsing and noticed that Ostendo showed the monitor again at CES 2009!  Sweet!  What's more, it's scheduled for release in July!!  Oh Happy Day!!  AND, it's going to cost $8000.

...wait, WTF?  $8000 for a DLP with a resolution of 2880x900?

Yeah.... $8000.

I was under the impression that the whole point of it being a DLP was to make it inexpensive.  Apparently not.

Try as I might, I cannot think of a reason for the price, nor for the company to sell more than one of them...  which will probably end up on the wall in Bill Gates' bathroom.

That's still $2000 and outrageous.

I'm betting they go out of business in a year, when someone comes out with a triple LCD with double the resolution for $1k.

I can't base this on anything more than instinct, but I would say that $850 was the sweet spot for this product.

$8000 :( That crushes my dreams. I wish Vista/7 would still spread a desktop over 3 screens. I was going to get two more 22" displays to game on, but the way vista handles multi monitors I can't play on fullscreen on over one display.

Wow, that is insane, I too thought it would atleast be on the verge of a reasonable price, until I saw the price just now...
