okay, I have a list of parts for my first build and I need to verify that they will work together, please help me out
Western Digital WD5000AAKS Caviar Blue Hard Drive
Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P Motherboard - AMD 790X, Socket AM3
AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Dual Core Processor - 3.10GHz, Socket AM3
PNY GeForce 9400 GT Video Card-1GB DDR2, DVI,VGA,PCI-Express 2.0
Corsair 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory
thats the parts list, also, could anyone tell me how powerfull my powersupply would need to be for this build?
Look set up and ready to do. If your a gamer the 9400 is not the bast card in the world. Other than that everything looks good. For a PSU I think 500watts will be more than enough. Don't go with a cheap one though. Always get a PSU from a well known brand, like Antec, Corsair, FSP.
also, does anyone know anything about the parts quality you get from free geek?
I was thinking of getting my powersupply and sound card and pretty much everything else that I need besides whats on the parts list and the case there.
it is the cheapest way top do things, I guess.
also, I am gaming on the PC but my budget is so low the PNY was the only 1G card I could afford
IDK to much about Free Geek.
You won't need a sound card. There is one built into the motherboard and you may be able to save a few bucks and get the 512MB version of the 9400. It wont make much use of that extra memory.
