I have a set of Creative 5.1 computer speakers I got at Wal-Mart years ago. I honestly just use my headset 90% of the time.
Jen uses a pair of technics speakers that sound awesome.

I had a set of them too but after I left my wife while I was having brain surgery in Alabama my X sold al my stuff!!! Real sweet heart but they sounded good and the funny thing is I got mine at Wal Mart 2!
Sounds like a sweetheart. I think I payed $60 for them. They are not bad I just dont use them for much. Pandora while I'm cleaning or a podcast or two.
I have a Logitech 2.1 currently, 2 years old. The sound is pretty excellent for $50. However, I would like to get my hands on a 5.1 set.
Right now the speakers I have connected to my PC are a set of modded Pioneer HPM100's. To be more clear they are connected to a Technics SA-300 I restored, but the point of my post is to give you another idea to follow, don't be too limited in your purchasing strategy. PC speakers are out there and yes some are even pretty good, but for low dollar amounts you can set yourself up with a sound system that can blow your mind.
For the money you put out on say some Klipsch Promedia speakers, or the current Logitech/creative speaker sets; you could get something incredible.
The last set of PC speakers I had was a set of Creative Gigaworks 750's (yes I know modified Cambridge soundworks Newton set). They were replaced by a set of Boston Acoustic CR7's with a small JBL subwoofer, playing through a base model Yamaha surround receiver (RX-V430). I never looked back.
if you already have a home stereo that you love, it isn't hard to use it to work with your PC, here's what you need: (quick google search scroll down to SAM-2RCAF-xx)
LINKY!
after you have one of these or similar use a patch and plug it in, and your home free!
