"On April 14, Windows XP will transition from the mainstream support phase to the extended support phase, as planned and previously announced."
I have a feeling that XP will be around for another 10 years at least, even if Mircosoft stops supporting it tomorrow.
I think you're right slayer. Heck some folks are still running Win2K out there!

You're all probably wondering what leaving "Mainstream Support" and entering "Extended Support" means:
It means that the only things they create updates for are security issues (unless your company has a hotfix agreement with them).
So: The updates will look exactly the same as they do today. The overwhelming majority of patches have always been for security issues.
People read the stupidest things. Like this sig, for instance.
I suppose alls-well-that-ends-well. As you guys have said I am sure XP will be "around" for a long while yet....I mean I am seeing PCs with 98 and stuff on them still as well as 2k; with the relative success XP once had, I am sure it'll have staying power for a while to come
XP will be around for a long time, unless Windows 7 does what it's supposed to do.
Extended support means there will still be patches for the OS on Patch Tuesday. Its not officially retired until it gets EOLed which is on April 8, 2014 as stated above.
I dont see XP going away for awhile lot of people get accustom to things and dont turn loose that easy!
