I have been using a MagicJack for nearly a week now and thought you guys might like to know how it works. If you don't already know, a MagicJack is a VOIP device that plugs into the USB port on your computer and allows you to make and receive phone calls via the internet. I ordered mine from HERE and it came within a few days. The device itself looks like a giant oversized flash drive, and a dongle cable is also supplied. MagicJack requires Vista, XP, or an Intel-based Mac. I installed mine on my test rig with Windows 7 beta build 7000 but it wouldn't work, so I then installed it on an XP machine. The install and set-up went smoothly. During set-up you choose your own area code and prefix, and then you get to start using your phone. I must say that the voice quality is quite good - as good as my landline! Included with the MagicJack, at no extra cost, is Caller ID and Voicemail. The only downside is that your computer needs to run 24/7 if you want to use your phone around the clock. But other than that, I highly recommend this product! I have posted this thread in the Hot Deals forum section because of the money this baby is going to save me. Today I called AT&T and told them I wanted to drop all of the extra features on my landline (Caller ID, Metro Plan, etc.) and reduced my monthly landline phone bill to only $7.28 mo. using their Measured-Rate plan (I still use AT&T for DSL). I now have an answering machine hooked to my landline, but make and receive all of my calls with MagicJack. This will save me nearly $50 a month! I give this thing two thumbs up!YesYes

Nice! I have been using skype and a headset. I honestly don't call that many people and if work needs to get ahold of me they call my cell first, because I always answer that. My mom uses Vonage. She pays $25 a month. How much is magicjack and do you have to buy the hardware?

The hardware is $39.95 and shipping is $6.95. Of course if you don't like it you can return it within 30 days for a refund.
