Have you tryed 177.98? Guru3D just added them today.
Is that a cuda driver or a nvidia driver. I have been using the cuda for my 8800 GTS.
Cuda beta drivers
Thanks I will check into it.
Edit: Yea that was the first driver giving me problems.
Well folks not long now till Zombiemaster gets his dues on the front page so i just wanted to wish a big round of congrats to him and thank you all once again for a great contest. Fold On!!!!!!
Congrats Zombiemaster! Keep up the great work.
Thanks - think equal congrats go to all who are wringing the most they can out of the hardware at hand to get points up on the board . . . and the biggest congrats go to whoever’s motivating us all to do it!
**just noticed our Team 24hr Avg. just jumped above 50,000 - Fold On HH!!

Gents, I've had to stop working with the GPU client as it causes serious crash issues with my GF GTX 280. Not sure what's up but it might even be heat related.

Sorry to hear it. I had to turn my fan on my 8800gts up a bit because it was quite warm, but hey I just got my girlfriend running the SMP and GPU2 so were still just were we left off.

Sorry to hear Davo and great job bob jumping on that and covering the mans points...now thats team work there!!!!!

Sorry to hear it too Davo - not sure if I have info that might help, but here’s what I can think of:
Don’t remember any GPU crashes (black screens, instead of blue) I’ve gotten from drivers or the FAH clients; right now I’ve got the GeForce 177.93 (beta) driver with PhysX installed (when upgrading, uninstalled from Vista and used Driver Sweeper to clean). And for the GPU2 client I have the Vista console 6.20r2 beta installed on the c:/ root instead of in a user directory like the SMP.
I’ve been folding with the GTX 280 at 704/1525/1219 running 100% fanspeed (it’s stable at 80% though too) with temps around 60C.
When playing with the card I haven’t had any GPU crashes when just running the GPU2 client alone - when I’ve pushed the OC or the heat too far, the ppd just drop as the GPU throttles back. Have had some black screens when gaming at the same time though depending on the game; Team Fortress 2 needs the clock dropped to 648, Dwarf Fortress needs the SMP off, and Spore doesn’t seem to play nice with any of the clients.
With my GTX 260 though, low power was giving me a lot of black screens - the GPU2 client seems to be able to pull the max power of cards (183W for the 260 and 236W for the 280); maybe doublecheck the amps on each rail and which rail(s) the 8pin and 6pin for the 280 are pulling from?
If there’s something else you think it might be, I can try to test it for you
FAHmon is saying I am getting 5893ppd. That's without the 9600gt overclocked. I'll OC that tonight or tomorrow.
an OC'ed GPU is a happy GPU!
Davo – I’ve been following a thread on the F@H Support Forum that might relate to your GPU crashes -
They began issuing new GPU work units this week (5508-5513 & 5017-5022) that are much larger proteins that aren’t folding as well on nVidia cards. They’re taking about twice as long to fold and making the cards work a lot harder. If you check FAHmon they’re the 430 pointers vs. the 480s.
There are several issues with the WUs that the Pande Group and nVidia are working on. At first there were a lot of EUEs, but they’ve made adjustments that have reduced those. One of the biggest problems though is the additional power draw and heat produced is causing a lot of GPU crashes - especially for OC’ed cards. nVidia is working to optimize the CUDA code to better handle the bigger WUs and reduce the card workload. The average decrease in ppd has been about 26%, but they think they can reduce that by about half.
For right now, the recommendation is to take off OC profiles but keep the fan settings high for GPU folding on the nVidia cards.
(so in this case an OC'ed GPU isn't a happy folder)
I had my GTX 260 blackscreen on the new WUs and thought this might have been behind your crashes too . . .
- might want to give it another shot
I noticed the new work units. Never put two and two together, but I had to move my fan speed up to 80% this week as well. Never had a problem, just noticed my 8800 was warmer than usual.
On the bright side I have a new high 24hour point record of 8,280! up from about 3,000!
I noticed the drop in ppd but hadn't the time to read up yet. Hey Davo whens the front page action happening on the folding contest?
Congrats on the point record! - saw you got the 200,000 milestone too
And CONGRATS Warlord:
2,000,000!!!
thats some serious folding!
zombiemaster: Congrats on the point record! - saw you got the 200,000 milestone too
Thanks for the congrats! I'm trying to catch up to transam now and when I get my new rig you and warlord(at least in PPD.) I will drop out later this week for the most part as I rip apart my current rig and Jens rig and bench my new one, but by the end of the month I should be posting up there with you guys.
Makes sense for sure, Zombie. That's essentially what has been happening to me. I've turned down GPU clocks and turned up fans but it stinks. NVIDIA better get their act together.
Dave_HH: NVIDIA better get their act together.
NVIDIA better get their act together.
I think the GPU2 client is still a little to wet behind the ears. Nvidia cruches some numbers, but overheats and ATI much less points. I think it just needs some more tweaking.
Thanks on the notice of the 2million points. Its taken 4 yrs
warlord: Thanks on the notice of the 2million points. Its taken 4 yrs
Ah you spoiled it I was working on it's own thread.
