In case you don't know, an upskirt photo is one taken surreptitiously by pointing a camera upwards and ... well, we're hoping you can figure it out on your own, as well as the analogous downblouse photo.

For some reason, with the advent of high-resolution camera phones, the practice of upskirt and downblouse photos have become very popular in Japan.  According to freelancer Nobuyuki Hayashi, the iPhone omitted this "feature," - a silent shutter sound - possibly explaining its wild popularity in that country.  All right, all right, it's popular everywhere.  Sue us.

At any rate, the iPhone 3G has restored such functionality. This gives tne Japanese version an exclusive feature, though perhaps one photographers in that country (ahem) wish they could do without.

And now the big question: will vintage iPhones sell with a premium because they lack this "feature?"

Wait, perhaps it's just way too early for me to think straight, but I am thoroughly confused. Oh wait, you forgot to mention what the exclusive feature actually is. I'm guessing it's a sound or something. Nothing that would be too hard to crack.

Is this the same sort of reason that the iSight cameras on Macs have a light that goes on when the cameras is on. A girl I know was telling me in college there were guys who would try to film them having sex with a webcam and put it on the internet of all places.

I'm pretty sure I remember it being an exaggerated shutter sound that you cant turn off

Well I don't know if it would matter as these pictures are being taken whilst on the street or on a bus/subway -- chances are that there is a lot of environmental noise going on around the "photographer" so the 2nd party may not even hear the audible sound....

I guess if one were to try in a library however, it may cause some trouble

Subways are really quiet. When I went to Japan, my tour guide said that even talking on the phone on the subway is frowned upon.

I don't own an iPhone so I don't know what the shutter sound is like. But it could be distinct enough (not necessarily an overly loud shutter sound) from environmental noise.

If you really dont know whats under there... hahah jk I guess its a culture thing, I watch a lot of japaneese anime and I bet you almost every shot of the female characters they will find a way to show her panties. It cracks me up.

Maybe it also involves the thrill of taking a snapshot without getting caught. Possibly similar to stealing panties?

Anyways, I didn't think there would be another person here that watches a lot of anime. Finished Great Teacher Onizuka not too long ago. Currently watching Lucky Star.

It baffles me how Japan can be so chock full of brilliant people and have so many deviant fetishes, that actually get enabled by products such as panty dispensers. But maybe I answered my own question. Maybe they're so otherwordly smart, that they're not aroused by our mere 'normal' pornography. Stick out tongue Hence all the gratuitous tentacle raping going on in manga. THAT'S ALIEN PORN MAN!

You have to remember that culture varies a lot and you can't judge another culture based on your own.

Not sure how true this is, but this travel guide to Japan stated something like Japanese people view manga with hentai differently than others, Like they don't read it to get aroused. I guess it is just for fun, like reading any other kind of comic or manga, just a different genre. Though even if it is true, I'm sure that it was just a general statement.

Anyways, I don't think you can call our porn "normal". Not only that, where Japan has in in comics, we have a lot of sick stuff on real-life videos. Just hearing some of the gross things my friends found from 4chan grosses me out and that isn't even a porn site. For the sake of the readers, I will go no further. I'll just reiterate that you can't really call porn normal, not even ours.

Also keep in mind that all porn sold/distributed in Japan is censored by law.

Pornography is defined as a depiction of erotic behavior intended to cause sexual arousal. I'll just leave it at that. Not sure if we should venture further and be more descriptive. lol
