Any one have it or have tried the Bose Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System? becuase I saw them in Best Buy during a demostration and the sound of these speakers are amazing, I wanted to buy them but the high price makes me wonder if they are worthy or choose a different Speaker System for my gaming rig.

Huh? What do you suggest me?

Hi All

Giving advice to someone looking to buy speakers is difficult, as we all have different taste. What I would suggest you do is shop around & audition different speakers first before you commit to the Bose. After that, if you still feel the same way about the Bose, go for it.

Yeh they do sound good. Klipsch is the only thing I know that really sounds better and they dont make a 5.1 system for the pc anymore. So the the real question is do they sound good enough to you to justify the price. Some other good systems are the creative Gigaworks

$359 is kinda hefty. I suggest you to get the A40 headset. by Astro Gaming. Very good headset. $250 coems with mixamp and headset and you cna use with PS3 and Xbxo 360 aswell as PC. Digital inputs.

After owning a 5.1 setup for the computer my suggestion is this. don't waste a ton of cash on it. You get way better results with good headphones. A really decent 2.1 set up is just fine imo. Matter of fact I would trade my 5.1 setup for the 2.1 setup I bought my parents anyday. As for Bose, you pay for the name. you can get much better quality for your money elsewhere.

Out of all of those I vouch for the logitech speakers as best sound for your buck.

I think I will go for the Logitech speakers after all, I went to Best Buy again to see them in a demostration and in my opinion they have more power than the Bose Speakers.

Never heard the Creative Gigaworks 550, but I did own the Gigaworks 500. Upgraded to the z5500 and I'm loving it.

By the way, if you can wait, you can sometimes catch the z5500 under $200. Keep an eye for it on www.slickdeals.net. If not, you can find them on Dell for cheaper than Newegg. Free shipping from Dell too!

Yeah, just keep an eye for it on SlickDeals. But just looking at the past front page deals for these speakers, you might be waiting for a while.

I have a Megaworks 550, paid about half a grand in euros when I was 15/16. While I believe it was worth the money, I feel today I would go for a really good 2.1. 5.1 seems to have gone out of fashion people now see it as clumsy.

Ya, I guess they can be considered pretty clumsy. But I already got a full tower. 3 more little speakers to move around isn't a big deal for me. Big Smile

Though I would love to build a mini pc (micro-ATX LAN box) someday so it is easier to move around. I'll just use headphones for that pc when I move it around.

Not sure if you already bought speakers or still waiting, but I found this on bargain site that might interest you.

Try using this 5% off coupon too:

Someone suggested to use this to knock the price down even farther:

I dunno if you have purchased either, but avoid the BOSE stuff like that.  Normally I am the kind to say listen like and buy, but the Bose stuff in those product lines are really trash and overpriced.

I also recommend leaving PC based speakers behind.  Buy a decent stereo receiver and get some good bookshelves, with a little research I am sure you could not go wrong.

Examples being;

Receivers>Denon, Cambridge Soundworks, Older Technics, Pioneer, Onkyo, Bel Canto

Speakers>Polk, Older Advent, Bowers and Wilkens, Paradigm or Boston Acoustics.

AMD X2 4400 - 4GB OCZ Platinum - 6TB Total HDD - ASUS A8N-Sli-Deluxe - nVidia 9800GTXx2 - SB XFI - WinPVR 100
