Microsoft's BFF, Intel, to Skip Vista

Since Microsoft recently announced it plans to release Windows 7 in 2010, speculation has begun that many businesses will simply skip Windows Vista.  And now it appears Microsoft's BFF, Intel, is making that choice.

Intel, the giant chip maker and longtime partner of Microsoft, has decided against upgrading the computers of its own 80,000 employees to Microsoft’s Vista operating system, a person with direct knowledge of the company’s plans said.

The person, who has been briefed on the situation but requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of Intel’s relationship with Microsoft, said the company made its decision after a lengthy analysis by its internal technology staff of the costs and potential benefits of moving to Windows Vista, which has drawn fire from many customers as a buggy, bloated program that requires costly hardware upgrades to run smoothly.

“This isn’t a matter of dissing Microsoft, but Intel information technology staff just found no compelling case for adopting Vista,” the person said.

No compelling case for adoption? That's the same reasons end users are giving.  Microsoft, can you get a clue?

Maybe Microsoft will do something about it now but I still don't think so...

is there any reason to suspect that people will think differently about windows 7?

it would be interesting to see Intel's analysis of upgrading from Win2K to XP and compare it to this analysis of XP to Vista.

I have to say I like vista. When I use XP I miss some of the features of Vista, such as the great search, the updated startbar, and the way you can see a preview of the windows without unminimizing them. I'm not a fanboy or anything I'm a long time linux user actually, but I do game a lot and DirectX 10 is gorgeous, though is brings my video card to its knees. I don't think its worth going out and buying but if your building a new rig with a nice directX 10 GPU why not get the OEM Home Premium and take advantage of some of the cool stuff Vista has to offer. Don't bash it untill you have to go back to XP for a week or at least for god sakes try it out first.

Happy Birthday to me! Warlord is the man!
