I was reading through an article re: the Asus M3N- HT mother board with where the passive cooling involves a memory heatpipe which seems kind of a odd configuration.Maybe you reviewed it here at HH but it seems like it would actually transfer the heat to the ram.The board only has 2 mem sockets and you have to remove the whole assembly to change the memory. No I wish Im poor right now just! Just looking at some AMD  boards and thought that was a strange configuration! I guess it would annoy me to have the remove the heatpipe assembly to upgrade the ram muchless the fact it will only hold 2 sticks! Im curious what other problems as far as CPU cooler if you would be limited to what you could use I like OCing so I want my options open! But im going to upgrade hopefully in the near future as  you can tell by my screen name I do like AMD processors and cranking them up to the MAX! So far I havent smoked one yet!!

This is actually the board that I think I decided to get to go with my new AMD cpu. The mempipe looks to be detachable. If you look at the nnorthbridge without the mempipe it has a couple holes that look like the mempipe fits there. I was originally turned off by the mempipe on the board also until I noticed that it was easily removed well from what I can tell in the pics of the board at newegg. The chipset shouldn't get that hot as to transfer heat to the ram and cause a problem anyway. And in case anyone was wondering EK emailed me back saying they have a NB and SB waterblock that will fit this board but no mosfet. I just got to figure something out for the mosfet now!

Nelson If I recall on Asus website I think I read in manual that indeed you do remove it to install the ram but I cant rememberwhat the max amount of Ram the board will support. What are you thinking on running  2 to 4gigs and your 5000+ AM2 what pin configuration is it I was reading up on the AM2,s and the 64-2 is it and this might be wrong cause I have a tendency to forget what I read a 939 or a 940.

I am not totaly sure what your asking me amd. According to Asus's website it supports up to 8GB of ram. If you use the mempipe though it looks like the mempipe would only cover 2 sticks but that 4 would still fit. I couldn't say for sure though. I plan to run 2x 2GB sticks. Not sure what you were getting at about the socket though. sorry

 My bad I sometimes dont make myself clear. You gave me the answer on the ram I was asking what the maximum amount supported. But maybe I looked at it wrong cause I only seen 2 slots for the Ram. Guess I need to look further.As far as the processor I was asking how many pins are on the AM2 processor 939 or 940.You,ll have to excuse me I had 2 brain surgeries not to long ago and I get confused and of track sometimes and dont exactly make myself clear sometimes. It kind of drives me crazy and a little embarrising to so Bear with me. Sometimes I  hesitant about posting because I figure I,ll confuse everybody just started posting more so I would be more involved in the forums so all ya,ll try to look around me. Thanks

No biggie. I am not 100% sure on the socket thing. I wanna say HH did an article back when the AM2 socket first came out and it stated something about the only physical difference as far as the pins go was 1 pin. Is that what you were asking?

Wasn't the 940 the server class motherboard socket during the time of the 939 socket?

I guess thats what I was trying to find out if theam2 socket is a 939 socket.

No I believe AM2, 939 and 940 are all different sockets. I know for sure 939 and AM2 are. I am pretty sure 940 was for server class MB's but don't qoute me on that. And the difference between the AM2 and AM2+ is that the AM2+ supports the new phenom cpu's where as the AM2 doesn't officially support it. I actually have a 939 socket now but I want to go with a AM2+ socket even though the 5000+ will work on a AM2 socket I figure if I am going to upgrade my MB get the newest available to support the most current cpu's. That way I have more that I could upgrade to in the future.

 Yup, 939, 940, AM2, are all different sockets.  AM2+ CPUs (Phenoms) will work in many AM2 motherboards as long as they have appropriate bios updates.  939 and 940 were around the same time, too.

Nelson It appears that Im blind to because went back and looked at the Mobo again and it does have 4 mem slots.Damn I dont know what the did when the cut a hole in my head to do my surgery but they definatley scrambled it up a little.Hey Im alive!!! Just a little duffas !

I might would buy that board anyway.
