    Re: need monitor suggestion.

CRTs are dead - don't even consider getting one!  They use too much energy, take up too much space, and you'll end up paying a fee to dispose of it when it dies. Notice that most stores don't even sell CRTs anymore? There's a good reason for that!

I have 2 Samsung LCD monitors, one is 19" with 5ms response rate and the other is 22" with 2ms response rate. I absolutely love Samsung monitors and they have a good variety with different price points to consider. You can catch a good 19" on sale in your price range.  (Acer, Viewsonic, and LG make some good affordable ones too).

I love Newegg.com, but actually have purchased both of my monitors from Buy.com.  They tend to have better sales on the Samsungs, at least that's been my experience.  Also with no tax and often free shipping, you can end up with a pretty good deal.  AND, here's a bit of a favor - use this link to get 5% off (up to $15.00, I believe) off your purchase (excluding cellular).  I don't remember where I found the link, but it's good through the end of 2008. By the way, I have used it several times and I guarantee it is authentic and safe!:

If it dies. Again, they won't be easy to find, but if you see one on Craigslist at a good size, I'd go for it. It's almost certainly going to be cheaper than an LCD of equivalent size, and better quality. You'll find gamers, especially ones on a  budget, haven't quite made the same switch the market has, and (gasp) for good reason. Surprise

I'm running a 21-inch CRT that's capable of all resolutions up to and beyond 1920x1200.  2048x1536 is its max although I wouldn't dare use something that ridiculous.  But the advantage is I do not have a native resolution.  If a game is too tasking, or the text too small, I can change the resolution without a loss of quality that would occure on LCDs.  Just saying that with an LCD you'll be stuck on your native res, and anything else will have compromises.  I suggest an LCD too, but I got this for free and it's far more versitile.  Just don't try to move it often, it's heavy as sin.

So what have you decided or have you decided what to do about this? I think i remember hearing you say something about this on vent the other night.  If you are going to take a gamble in the LCD format.. I have heard good things about Hanns-G but cannot really recommend because i have never seen one in person.  One of the best pieces of advise I can offer, is to go to a store which carries a model you are interested in and test it out in person. Most retail stores wont mind if you bring a DVD or something to see what it looks like while under stress with many things happening on the screen like in games. I use an older model of one of the 19 inch Wide screens that were posted above. I have really been happy with it and i has held up really well (going on 2 years now). But i was low on cash at the time and it was the best i could get for about 180 bucks. I'm sure there are better models out now at about the same price so I won't recommend the model i have either :P. Just wanted to throw some ideas out there for you.
