Super Talent Launches Tiny 8GB USB Flash Drive

Super Talent Launches World’s Smallest 8GB USB Drive

San Jose, California – April 7, 2008 -- Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced three new 8GB USB Flash drives, including the world’s smallest 8GB drive.

These new drives include: PICO-A, with a swivel lid; the retractable PICO-B; and ultra small PICO-C. Super Talent’s patented PICO series USB drives are manufactured using chip-on-board (COB) technology, which enables up to 8GB of Flash storage to fit into an incredibly minute case. PICO-C drives weigh less than a nickel (about 4.7 grams) and measure only 31.3mm x 12.4mm x 3.4mm.

8 GB that small for $35?  Oh hell yeah.  Thanks HH news, I just might end up buying this.  I'll just do some reading of impressions first.  My brother has a 4Gb which looks almost exactly the same, but it cost around $50 when he got it last year.  Right now I can't find the small model for sale anywhere, including the site mentioned, but I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled.

Hopefully they're fast enough for ReadyBoost.  Would make a great accessory to any laptop running Vista.

Devices like this make you think of just how absurd floppy discs are. I remember playing various games on old Apple IIe computers in my elementary school library that we checked out on 5.25" floppy discs. Todays flash storage devices are really quite amazing when you consider 5.25" and 3.5" floppy discs only hold 1.2MB and 1.47MB respectively.

$36.99 free shipping.  I'm pretty tempted.  edit: Now only about $30.

But which to get... Hmm.  The C is the smallest, might go there.

Re: Super Talent Launches Tiny 8GB USB Flash Drive

If someone gets one, they will have to let us know what the actual read/write speeds are. It says up to 30MB/s transfer, which would have to be read speed, but even if the write speed is only half that it should still be perfect for ReadyBoost. At $30 these things are a steal.

Thanks for the links, CC. My Son just lost his flash-drive at school, and since his grades are so good I think I will just have to spring for one of these!
