    ddr3

    getting a custom made pc

    pretty much got everything else

but want to get 8gb ddr3 memory

    preferably dominator

not sure if they do 8gb kits though and is it really worth it?

if not dominator then my backup is the xm3 ddr3 again 8gb

I don't think they have 8 GB kits at the moment.. however, you can just get 2 kits of 2x2GB DDR3...

Those are the majority of what is out there.

For 4GB, you are already paying an arm and a leg.. 8 GB... your rich! :)

    Good luck.

You could build a nice little rig for the price of 8gb DDR3... must be nice. :P

You could always run 4x2GB sticks.

    Re: ddr3

May I ask the purpose for all the RAM in your machine? It is truely unnecessary if you are building a gaming rig as you will no longer see MUCH of a performance increase (generally) above 4GB right now....

If you are looking to do a lot of audio/video editing or design work then 8GB would do you some good. As everyone else has illuded to maybe just grab yourself a 4GB kit for now and wait for prices to fall so this way gaming software has a chance to "catch up" and the ability to consistantly address >4GB of RAM; that is unless as I previously said, you are looking to edit/design...

    Re: ddr3

    thanks everyone

and no im not really looking to edit / design

    just a gaming multi-media pc

as games and hi-def movies are what id be primarily using it for.

but id rather get a top rate system noiw that way i can experiment with it.

im getting this one custrom made.

i also want to make one myself durring summer. but we'll see how that goes

i'll post specs and pictures of my rig as soon as i get it.

was going to go for skultrail but in the end decided against it as didnt see the benefit of it

but i wouldnt be paying alot extra for the 8gb ddr3

anyways ive decided to go for corsairs xm3 series

as they dont do 8gb kits in the dominator series.

    Re: ddr3

In that case I would just settle with 4GB of RAM since DDR3 is still quite expensive unless you don't mind burning the money on 8GB of DDR3 memory.

    Re: ddr3

why not get 4 gigs now and when they improve the timings and get the price lower replace those 4 gigs with 8 gigs

~$1000 for 8GB of DDR3 is pretty expensive in my view but none the less its pretty sweet that you'll be running 8GB even if its overkill but at the same time, still sweet.

You should post a link to the kit that you bought -- I am just curious as to the specifications

    Re: ddr3

Well i'll be posting pics and benchmarks of my rig once ive got it along with specifications

but this is basically what im getting

    eVGA 790i ultra Motherboard

    Core2 Quad QX9650

Tagan A380 case with Custom Water Cooling Options

1200W NSP Modular Power Supply - 80 Plus Certified, and Tri-SLI Ready!

    two LiteOn 20X DVD+-RW

    4 150GB Raptor HDD + 1 750GB SATA HDD

    2 x 9800GX2 Graphics cards

8gb of ddr3 1333 corsair xms3 or other micron vendor

i think thats it apart from vista ultimate 64 bit operating system and all the usual software

    Re: ddr3

Only ones I can fin with DDR3-1333MHz freq. speed are the ones with 9-9-9-24 timings. It would also be good to mention that is there is a slight chance that the DDR3-1333MHz memory sticks you are gonna get do not use the micron IC chips.

Judging by the rest of the parts in your soon to be rig, I don't think money is an issue Indifferent

i'll let you know as soon as i get my system

and yeah money was not really a big iussue.

the only reason i didnt go for a skultrail was i didnt really see the benefit of getting one.

and there wasnt really anything else i could think of to improve the system

but i guess i'll see when i get it
