    Kingston HyperX 800MHz showing as 667Mhz ?

    Hi.

Received my new ram today. 4GB Kingston HyperX Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz (PC2-6400).

Problem is, bios is only showing it as 667 and not 800. I've had a look in the bios and changed the voltage from 1.8 to 1.95 and selected the type of ram as DDR2 800. now when i boot it shows in bios as DDR 800, but in windows CPU-Z is showing it still as 667 (5-5-5-15 1.8V), but bios shows as 800 (5-5-5-15 2T) - shouldnt it be 4-4-4-12 ?

    Posted CPU-Z screen grabs below.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks

    John

Actually, it's reporting at 752 (376x2) because the clock is idle.  Under load, that should jump to 800MHz.  You can also manually set your timings too in the BIOS and you should be good to go.

i heard some where that some motherboard only allow you to go so high but it seems like from the cpuz(good program) that it is a load issue

What should the timings be for this, having a look around i think it should be set at 4-4-4-12 2T @ 1.95V, any idea if thats correct. Also my motherboard is an Asus M2N-E (non SLI version).

    Thanks again

hmmmm, checked and your right, think my motherboard's limited to 1.95v, dont have an option in bios to go higher. timings are already set at 5-5-5-15.

Is this how everything should be then, nothing else to adjust ?

Should of researched this before purchasing, other similar kits from OCZ run at like 2.1 & 2.2V, lucky i never opted for them, my old Kingston Value ram 1GB sticks were only 1.8V.

I think you're fine.  If you are not going to overclock, I don't think you are going to have any issues.  If you do, it'll manifest mostly as odd behavior, such as otherwise stable apps suddenly starting to act up and such.  If you use it for a week or two and everything is stable, you're good to go.  If you have troubles, you have time to return it for something else.   There should'nt be any other adjustments needed.

i think i'll leave as is for now, might have a go at overclocking, if the current setup runs ok for a week or two, if overclocking doesnt work i can always go back to how it is now.

hmmm, wonder what another 4GB kit with vista 64-bit would be like Devil

Thanks for all your help by the way Jeff Big Smile

    errrrr Angry

just checked the price on this today and its £30 cheaper, thats $60 for the US members.

Might buy it again at the current price and RMA this one for a full refund as it stated as PC-6400 but only runs as PC-5300, thats my excuse anyway.
