    Help choosing new headphones

I'm currently using Sony MDR V700 and want something more suited to gaming... possibly a headset with a detachable mic. Price range $150 or less. Any suggestions?

a cpu, a board, some ram, a gfx card, an opty, a hdd and a psu... all in a case

I've used nothing but Sennheiser for about 3 years now, I won't go back to anything else.

I've known about Senn for years, but haven't owned a pair. They look very high quality and I've heard nothing but positive things about them so they're high on my list of candidates.

    Considering THIS set... whatcha think?

I was looking at those too... it'll most likely end up being 1 of those 2.

Funny thing is neither of those sets can match the frequency range of my V700s, but they're just so dang uncomfortable.

Well...I guess it's a good purchase. I'm a fan of sennheiser also. But for gaming, this is better..

More pricey though. I visited a audiophile forum a few months ago and asked around for a good gaming headset, tons of people were recommending this sucker over the HD555 and HD595...But the sennheiser one you picked out is still a damn good headset. ^_^

A matter of oppinion from my POV. The only reason I'm getting new headphones is because my V700s aren't very comfortable... heck they're marketed as DJ headphones, but I thought they were great for gaming. The sound quality is excellent... when playing F.E.A.R. online I was able to gauge where enemies were very accurately by listening to their footsteps.

BTW: Suggesting that something is better after a person has already clearly stated that they've already made the purchase isn't very productive, especially when what they've purchased is very good to begin with. I'm not aggitated or anything, but that's my oppinion.

    Re: Help choosing new headphones

I getcha, I didn't notice this thread before, both headsets are fantastic, the Audio Technics and the Sennhesier's I mentioned are in the same competing field, I was planning to pick up a HD555 as well but I was hit with a recommendation for that sucker. I don't have any of them though, I'm still on a Sennhesier PC155 which has served me faithfully. I just wanted to toss the info by since you just ordered yesterday....I was hoping it wouldn't of shipped out yet, but maybe it's too late.

Don't be upset though, that sennhesier headset is amazing. This is my second Sennhesier headset that I'm on, if that's your first sennhesier set, trust me, it's a goodie =D.

    Re: Help choosing new headphones

They arrived today and after just a couple hours of listening to a movie and some music, I've concluded that they are very nice. My V700s have punchier base, but that's to be expected since they're marketed as DJ headphones and the earcups are smaller and shallower so the driver is closer to the ear. Also the V700s have lower impedance so even a small mp3 player can drive 'em pretty loud. What stands out to me about the 555s is the richness and body of the mid and low frequencies... the 700s are accurate, but the mids come off kinda flat sometimes. In the end I like the 555s better because they are much more comfortable and that's why I wanted to switch in the 1st place. The 700s are a better value though and probably 1 of the best all around headphones you can get for under $100.

    Re: Help choosing new headphones

I'm aware that the thread is finished as headphones have been bought. However, for future viewers of this thread I would recommend Audio-Technia's noise cancelling headphones, They are getting great reviews and are priced at $140, or at least thats what I paid for them when I was in New York for Christmas. They easily compet with Bose's Quiet Comforts which retail at often over $300. Solid bargain. Perfect for everyday use with iPods, computers and general music listening.

Here's a review of the noise cancelling audio-technica set.

However if you wanted to splash out a couple extra bob and get something that more in line with a trained ear or with audiophile tastes. Denon's AH-2000 cans are a safe purchase.

Here's a review of the Denon cans.
