Coming soon: AMD Phenom (short for PHENOMENAL?). Will ship as dual and quad-core. The quad-core Phenom will have all four cores on one die. Intel's current quads are essentially two dual-cores linked by a frontside bus. The AMD design is better in theory, but only testing will tell the truth. Hopefully will ship by the end of 2007.

and u no how the phenom is four seperate cores on 1 die will penryn be like that (obviously current quads arent)

Sorry, I don't have an answer on the cost, but I bet they won't be cheap! Most likely these new processors will have the effect of driving-down the price of the current wonderful hardware that is now available, and I like that. So GOOD to see AMD and Intel duke-it-out for the crown while offering such blazing-fast hardware for cheap.

what i can tell u atm is this, as you should know, the barcelona quad core is already out. It is a server CPU so it isnt meant for fancy performance, mainly just efficiancy. The Phenom series will come in various forms, some will be compatible with existing AM2 motherboards which is of course a great benefit as replacing motherboards is always a hassel. The top of the line, should hit 2.8-3.0ghz. This applies to both, quad cores and dual cores. The new "L3" cache is also a great feature; basically it will allow the 4/2 cores to work on the same proccesses, thus giving a much greater step on performance. It will also mean a game will not need to be "multicore" compatible because essentially, the new quad cores and dual cores will work as one. So performance isnt an issue, Phenom will be more than enough to compete with intels upcoming quad cores as AMD have had far more time, and were the first to come up with the idea, when intel release their competitor, amd will have a new version of theirs just around the corner, so in theory, the performance crown should change hands. Where price is concerned you will be looking at about $400, which actually the same amount of when intel released there dual cores. Isnt intels quad core currently $600 or something?. Anyway thats the price for the fastest. The price list will basically be the same as it is now. If you want the best, you must be prepared toi pay for it, but i doubt the mid range quad cores will be expensive, probably $200-$300

Intel may charge a lot more, its what they do, i wouldnt expect them to come up with a "fair price" on the first day of release. AT the momment, its worth me waiting for AMD's quad cores as i have an AM2 board, so i wont have to upgrade when i get it.

hey thanks alot for that that was very useful i especially like that L3 cache. me personally have never tried amd its not that i dont like it its just i dont know about it and i would like to go for the switch to amd if its proven better. any idea wether then intel quads will have the L3 cache.

post again if u find anything new thanks

Sorry but i wouldn't call the Intel Quad-Core a Quad-Core because it is just two dual-cores stuck together. I don't know if the AMD one is going to be the same but oh well.

(I found that out on the website)
