    Presario Overheating

    Hello,

First of all, sorry if this post is in the wrong category.

I own a Compaq Presario 1500 but some months ago tt seems that is overheating and the Fan is always on and sometimes at full speed. I've already opened and cleaned the dust of the fan and put some more thermal mass on the CPU but it doesnt solves the problem.

The laptop is old, 5 yrs and I think that this may be the end of it

    Any hint ?

    Thank you,

when you replaced the thermal paste did you remove all the old thermal paste from the heat sink and the Cpu? If you didnt that could be contributing to the heat problem.

It was my friend, he's a computer repairer. But yes, I saw him removing the old thermal paste.

I'm happy with my Compaq Presario 1500, at the time It was very good. Now it's 5 yrs old and it's time to move on, maybe an Asus. Dont know in USA but in Europe Asus are very popular. Dell laptops and Lenovo are not very popular here... I only know one person with a dell laptop.

Codezero depending on how much you use you Presario, I have a feeling you dont use it alot. Quality also is determined differantly by people. One major breakdown might seem like nothing to one person were as to another its a big deal. Every person that I know that had a Compaq said they have problems including there desktop models. I have had HP Printers that last no more than 2 years. I have a techy freind who use to work at HP he said the computers have built in obsolescence. Whenever I saw him with his own laptops and computer he had everything but Hp and Compaq.

It is also possible you have spyware/adware that is taking system resources and making your computer work harder than it has to; a computer under a load does put out more heat -- have you done a scan with your anti-spyware for this at all?

    Hello,

Yes, I have done several scans and after that format the whole drive several times. It's not for sure a software problem, it's hardware related.

Yhea, the compaqs really suck.  They are so bad that some of them overheat and they lose their wireless cards(motherboard gets damaged)  http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1136440
