Do you remember when Nintendo of America Chief Operating Officer Reggie Fils-Aime said back in December that his company would boost NES Classic Edition production to meet the Christmas shopping rush? “All of our key retailers are letting consumers know when to go to stores to get it,” said Fils-Aime. “So, as we sit here today, two weeks before Christmas, I think consumers are going to be able to get their hands on it.” Still to this day, finding an NES Classic Edition in stock at a retailer is next to impossible. We thought that perhaps Nintendo would learn its lesson for the launch of the Switch... Read more...
There’s no question that there is plenty of excitement building up around the launch of the Nintendo Switch console. The hybrid console can function as a mobile gaming device thanks to its 6.2-inch 720p display and integrated battery. However, using the included dock, you can hook the console up to your big screen television for “comfy couch” gaming sessions. One of the gaming titles that will launch with the Nintendo Switch next month is The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild (it will also be the final first-party title for the unloved Wii U). In a somewhat surprising move, Nintendo announced... Read more...
Nintendo confirmed this past week that the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be the big N's final release for the Wii U, much to the chagrin of the fans who've stuck by the console since its release in 2012. Nonetheless, if Wii U owners are not planning to make an immediate jump to the Switch, it looks like the Zelda release isn't going to be all that lacking for holdouts.  The folks over at IGN reached out to Nintendo which happily provided tidbits to help clear things up. First and foremost, both versions of the game will become available on March 3, which is a great... Read more...
If you're a fan of the original Legend of Zelda and love the feeling of a nostalgic high, we've got you covered. On its UK website, Nintendo has just posted a number of scans showing us what the classic game featuring Link looked like before those ideas turned digital. Anyone who's played Legend of Zelda is going to recognize the shot below without hesitation. Some of the map is cut off, but you can still see the section that new players begin out in (the second in on the bottom from the left), and not to mention a slew of secrets (obviously, no fan was ever meant to see this before the game was... Viewers who tuned in to watch The Game Awards, a new awards show for video games produced by Geoff Keighley, got to see gameplay footage of Nintendo’s upcoming Zelda game for the Wii U. The demonstration featured Zelda lead producer Eiji Aonuma, who was playing the game, along with original Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto providing commentary. While playing the game, it was revealed that the new Zelda game would be coming out in 2015.  The demonstration utilized the Wii U’s gamepad, which showed a zoomable world map while Aonuma controlled Link, the game’s main character. Viewers were able... Read more...
Nintendo is experimenting with new pricing models for its console games, an effort aimed particularly at digital sales and packaging downloadable content with boxed games. According to IGN, the company is bringing its experiment to the real world via a free-to-play game. The title? Steel Diver. Steel Diver was originally a game developed for the Nintendo 3DS, and reviews on it appear to be somewhat mixed. It’s a submarine adventure wherein you float around and defend the world’s nations from a rogue invading threat. In other words, it’s not a marquee title in the same vein as... Read more...
Nintendo’s latest gaming console, the Wii U, is a bit of a risk for the legendary company. The console promises the moon, and although we found plenty of things to like about the Wii U in our review, the device came up a little short. Sales have been somewhat up and down, too. There was a nice spike around Black Friday when Nintendo sold 400,000 units in the U.S. in a weeks’ time, and although sales numbers appear to have remained solid since then (890,000 totals consoles in the U.S. and 2.5 million worldwide), there are signs of weakness in Japan, where sales dipped from 76,000 units... If you've been on the fence about whether or not to spring for a Nintendo 3DS console, this might make you jump off. At least one retailer, and possibly two or more, are going to carry a special edition themed 3DS console commemorating the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. The Zelda bundle will include a themed 3DS console and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time game. GameStop is already advertising the bundle in its flyer as part of its Black Friday bonanza. If you have a DSi XL to trade in, you can pick up the bundle for as little as $100 (a Mario 3D Land bundle will also be available),... Read more...
After a strong initial release, sales of Nintendo's newest 3DS have slumped significantly. The company had planned to sell at least four million units by the end of its fiscal year, but only moved 3.61M. During his speech at the company's investor conference, company CEO Satoru Iwata said the latest handheld required a different approach. We have revised our scenario for diffusion and are making efforts to get the popularity of Nintendo 3DS back on track for the upcoming summer season... The value of 3D images without the need for special glasses is hard to be understood through the existing media.... Read more...
