It’s nearly impossible to keep up with the latest and greatest tech without updating something every few months, but MSI is throwing us a bone by making sure its Z68 and H61 series motherboards will support Intel’s next-generation 22nm chips via a simple BIOS update. Users just need to use MSI’s LiveUpdate tool to get the update. The complete list of compatible motherboards is listed below, although it appears for the time being that just three have the BIOS update available today, and all three are H61 boards. Note that these boards support PCI-E 3.0 as well, so users can build... Read more...

We’ve looked at our share of Z68-based motherboards here at HotHardware, and the Gigabyte G1.Sniper2 is another stand-out to consider. The G1.Sniper2 is in Gigabyte’s line of Sniper/Guerilla/Assassin gaming motherboards, although it’s currently the only one in the family with the Z68 chipset. Like the other motherboards in the G1.Sniper/Guerilla/Assasin family, the G1.Sniper2 sports a black PCB with gunmetal black and neon green accents. The heatsinks evoke gun barrels, and there’s a banana clip with a bullet peeking out of the top for extra intimidation. One of the gun... Read more...

The latest Z68 motherboard from MSI, the Z68MA-G43 (G3), is now available. The little mATX board has a lot of the specs you’d expect from a Z68 board--support for up to 32GB of DDR3-2133 (OC) RAM, USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps on board, and support for Intel Sandy Bridge chips. It also features the PCI-E Gen 3 standard, with two PCI-E Gen 3 x16 slots and two PCI-E Gen 2 x1 slots for expansion. Other notable features include MSI’s ClickBIOS II, which lets you adjust system settings via the UEFI or from Windows with equal ease, as well as OC Genie II, which enables very quick and simple overclocking.... We've seen some fairly unusual motherboards, and some fairly advanced ones as well. But what about a mainboard with an SSD infused onto it? It's true, and it's real. Gigabyte has just announced a new mainboard with an SSD on it, the Z68XP-UD3-iSSD. The board has a 20GB Intel SSD 311 built right onto it, which enables users to take advantage of Intel's Smart Reponse technology for a serious performance boost. It's an mSATA-based SLC SSD, and while the company doesn't make clear if you could load an operating system onto it, it should hasten the transfer of frequently used files. The new Z68 board... If you look back to our coverage of the Sandy Bridge launch, we tested the two premiere chipsets in the 6-series, the enthusiast-targeted P67 and mainstream H67. Fundamentally, the two chipsets were very similar (and are based on the same piece of silicon), but each had a specific feature set designed for its target audience. For example, the P67 offered CPU and memory overclocking and increased power and current limits, while the H67 gave users the ability to take advantage of Sandy Bridge’s built-in graphics and Quick Sync media-encoding engine. P67 users that wanted to take advantage of... Read more...
