It’s becoming more tedious to be a Yahoo! Mail user these days. The Gmail-ish redesign a few months ago was supposed to bring many attractive changes to the email service, but it launched with an annoying auto-forward bug, and anecdotally, performance has been slow and buggy from what I’ve experienced. As if Yahoo needed more bad press after the slow-boil frustration that is the new Yahoo Mail, at least one security firm found that the company’s homepage served up malicious ads to potentially millions of users, with likely thousands infected. Security firm Fox IT, which operates Security Operations Center service ProtACT reported that for a period starting on December 30th (possibly earlier) and stretching to around January 3rd (when the malicious traffic started to die off), visitors to Yahoo.com were served malicious ads that redirected them to domains that pointed to a single IP address... Yahoo’s fresh new Mail revamp earlier this week brought a new look, new themes, 1TB of storage, and deeper changes such as disposable addresses, mail filters, automatic mail forwarding, offline access with POP, and more. It also came with a major bug. Some users have complained that they were missing emails, and it turns out that the issue is apparently that the auto-forwarding feature is switched on by default on some accounts.
