We are officially declaring May 11, 2010 "Athlon II" day. Why you ask? Because AMD is launching a total of six new Athlon II processors today, including a new flagship model, targeted squarely at budget conscious consumers. We should point out, however, that all six of the processors launching today feature existing core microarchitectures. While they do differ from previous offerings in terms of frequency, and of course their model names, all of the new Athlon II processors arriving today are based on the same Propus (X4), Regor (X2), and Rana (X3) cores that were introduced a few months back.... Ultra Products has just announced a new line of fully modular power supplies, dubbed the X4. We have actually had one of the 1050W units in house for a couple of weeks now and think it is a solid product. Our Ultra X4 has been used to power Core 2, Lynnfield, and Bloomfield test-beds for recent articles, and we really took it to task on an octal-core Intel-powered rig complete with dual Radeon HD 4870 X2s and the unit never faltered once, despite some hefty workloads. Officially, Dell has stocked AMD systems for several years, but the visibility and prominence of its AMD offerings has tended to ebb and rise. There have been times when the smaller CPU manufacturer has been all but banished from the company's online store, and then there are times like now, when AMD-powered rigs are popping up in multiple areas. Last month, AMD launched the Phenom II X4 processor line-up, and with it ushered in the first desktop processors built using the company's 45nm process node. While the first two Phenom II processors to arrive, the 3.0GHz X4 940 and 2.8GHz 920, were clearly superior to previous Phenoms in terms of performance and power efficiency, and they remain the two most powerful processors in AMD's product stack today, they did not exploit all of the capabilities offered by their newly tweaked, and redesigned cores. We're writing to let you know that we have just posted a new article at HotHardware in which we evaluate the features and performance of three X48-based motherboards. The first motherboard comes from ASUS, and is a member of the gamer-oriented Republic of Gamers series, which we have taken a few looks at in the past. We've been mostly impressed by what they've offered in this series, and expect no less with the Rampage Formula. Next up is the X48T-A from ECS. AMD has finally gone into full production with a new mask spin of their Phenom processor now dubbed the Phenom X4.  The new flagship 2.5GHz Phenom X4 9850 is representative of a new revision of the native quad-core Phenom silicon that resolves the well known TLB errata.  Quad-core Phenom X4 processors based on the new B3 revision silicon should be hitting store shelves in the not too distant future.  In addition to resolving the TLB bug, AMD is also unveiling some higher clocked Phenoms and tri-core and low-power models too.  We've got AMD's latest and greatest Phenom processor,...
