Volition's  Saints Row series is well-known for being one of the most ridiculous out there in terms of story and gameplay, and it appears that not a thing will change with the company's next release, Gat Out Of Hell. The game was announced at this weekend's PAX Prime in Seattle, and interestingly, it's not a full game. Instead, it's a standalone expansion, much like Far Cry's Blood Dragon was in that series. Gat Out Of Hell's $19.99 price tag reflects the game's slimmer design, but that doesn't mean that there isn't going to be a lot to see and do. The developers say that the game world... Read more...
Once upon a time, there was an entire genre of space combat titles. Origin took an early lead with 1990's Wing Commander, but Lucas Arts followed a few years later with the hugely popular X-Wing and Tie Fighter series. In 1998, Volition gave us Descent: Freespace, followed by Freespace 2 in 1999. Both games sold reasonably well, but development on a hypothetical Freespace 3 was nixed when Volition was picked up by THQ. The problem, as often happens, was one of rights. Volition is showing off a video demo of Saints Row IV, and the new version of the game offers a host of enticing new features designed to enhance the game’s slapstick-level violence more fun. First off, the leader of the Saints is now the President of the United States. And no, he’s not cruising around in a motorcade wearing a pleasant dark suit; he’s running around in red- and white-striped pants, a blue pinstripe vest, and an American flag top hat. Further, he’s not exactly governing the country from behind a desk; he’s out in the streets, delivering devastating... Read more...
When THQ went bankrupt a couple of months ago, the first series that popped into my head was Saints Row. Anyone who's played it likely agrees that it's a classic - it takes the traditional FPS formula, puts it in a blender, adds a dash of humor, and becomes a ridiculously fun series. Fortunately, Deep Silver acquired Volition, the series' developer, and it sure didn't take too long before we discovered its fate: Saints Row IV is en route. With a target launch date of August, it's apparent that IV has been in development for some time - and by the looks of things, if you were a fan of the third... Read more...
