It's not quite infinity and beyond, but Corsair did take its Flash Voyager USB memory stick as high as it can currently go, which is USB 3.0. The new SuperSpeed models sport the same rubberized mold as previous Voyager USB sticks, only now they're potentially much faster, assuming your system has a USB 3.0 port. Otherwise, the retooled Voyagers are backwards compatible with USB 2.0/1.1, just obviously not as fast. "The faster read speeds offered by USB 3.0 make high-speed data storage much more convenient," said Thi La, vice President of Memory Products at Corsair. "For example, high-bandwidth... Read more...
Believe it or not, we have actually heard of a quad-channel USB 3.0 stick before. They certainly aren't "everywhere" yet, but they're becoming increasingly popular as more and more notebooks start to ship with USB 3.0 ports. Sharkoon, an accessories and peripherals company, has just introduced their newest USB stick, a USB 3.0 device that has write rates of up to 70MB/sec, read rates of up to 110MB/sec and arrives in two sizes: 32GB and 64GB. These aren't giant drives that could be easily used as notebook backup drivers, but they're still sizable enough to carry around your essential documents... Read more...
Zotac today announced its first Zbox series of mini-PCs equipped with USB 3.0 technology -- the Zbox ID41 series. The boring name belies what's a fairly sexy nettop, made even more so with the addition of SuperSpeed ports (two on the back panel). There's also four USB 2.0 ports (two on the back, one on the front, and one on the top panel). "External expansion is vital with mini-PCs. By adding SuperSpeed USB 3.0 technology to our award-winning Zbox mini-PCs, we are able to offer external connectivity capable of speeds up to 5Gb/s," said Carsten Berger, marketing director. Other notable features... Read more...
Flash memory is getting cheaper, faster and more prominent. Perfect for the consumer. Super Talent in particular has done a great job of placing pricing pressure on everyone else in the industry. The company's USB 3.0 drives are amongst the least expensive in the business, and now the company is introducing a 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive for just $59. The 32GB version of the Express Duo flash drive, which can top 67MB/sec in testing, is shipping now, along with a 16GB version at $29 and an 8GB version at $14. A demo of the benchmarking is below. PS3 gamers have been less than happy about Gran Turismo 5's load times since the long-awaited game launched a few weeks ago. Beyond3D forum member Phil was fed up enough to install a Corsair F120SSD in place of the system's traditional SATA hard drive and the performance difference is significant. We've graphed the data from Phil's load time tests below. Certain forum respondents expressed dismay that the load times are only twice as fast, but we've a feeling that firmware optimizations could improve transfer speeds. Load times have always been the Achilles heel of console gaming, but SSDs could... Read more...
At this time last year, USB 2.0 hard drives were all the rage. Just 12 months later, and now a whole bunch of new external HDDs have USB 3.0 support. And it's about time! Throughout the year, we have wondered why laptop and desktop makers weren't supporting USB 3.0 with any real frequency. Even today, loads of new notebooks are shipping with one (or none) USB 3.0 ports. We realize that not every USB peripheral will need to take advantage of the extra speed (mice and keyboards come to mind), but since they're backwards compatible, we see no real reason not to load up on them. But hopefully, as more... Read more...

USB 3.0 has been out for awhile now. Loads of notebooks and desktops are shipping each day with USB 3.0 support, and while we still wish that each and every PC would make the jump to 3.0, at least progress is being made. But there's one qualifier there: the only USB 3.0 machines shipping are Windows-based PCs. In other words, no Mac is supporting USB 3.0 today, even the newest MacBook Air machines. Apple has shown no interest in jumping on the USB 3.0 bandwagon, but that doesn't mean that Mac users are in agreement. Creative professionals who transfer lots of data to external drives definitely... Read more...
Super Talent is no stranger to USB 3.0. The company has been producing USB 3.0 gear for some time now. But now they're breaking a price barrier. The company has just announced that their USB 3.0 Express Duo has broken the $15 price barrier. A USB 3.0 drive for under $20? That's a trend we can get behind. Super Talent's new USB 3.0 Express Duo can top over 67MB/s when plugged into a USB 3.0 port, yet remains fully-backward compatible to USB 2.0 and for about the same price. Starting today, Super Talent will begin offering the 8GB USB 3.0 Express DUO for $14 and the 8GB version for only $29. The... Read more...
