If you’ve ever worked in a professional environment for an extended period of time, chances are you’ve used an IBM-come-Lenovo ThinkPad at some point. Their simple black rectangle designs with the little red dot on the keyboard are downright iconic... To that end, the latest notebook in the T-series, the Lenovo ThinkPad T440s, is one of the company’s slimmest and lightest to date (save for the X1 Carbon series). It weighs in at 3.5lbs (without the extra battery) and is under 0.8 inches at its thickest point. So is the ThinkPad T440s the same old business laptop with a slimmer... Read more...

Intel's fourth-generation family of Core processors (Haswell) have shown to perform extremely well in testing, particularly in an area where Intel has historically been slightly weak: power consumption. Many PC makers have already showcased their Haswell plans, hoping to get the new silicon into new machines before the back-to-school and holiday shopping seasons. Toshiba is joining that crowd today with a number of improvements to its Satellite U and M series of laptops. The Satellite U50t is the company's first 15.6-inch Ultrabook, and ships with a ten-point touchscreen for easy navigation through... Read more...
Intel's roll-out of their 4th generation Haswell-based Core series processors has been a little pokey, quite frankly, when you compare this launch to the deluge of products that hit the market when Ivy Bridge broke cover last year.  Regardless, Apple always seems to have an inside track on Intel's latest technology and so, as it turns out, our first Haswell-powered notebook has finally arrived and it's none other than the Apple MacBook Air. The new MacBook Air for 2013 is virtually indistinguishable from the previous gen model, though if you'll look closely there actually two tiny pinholes... Read more...

It appears that a recent patent filed by Apple to the United States Patent and Trademark Office has some notebook vendors a little worried, at least according to industry tracking site DigiTimes. That being the case, you might imagine that the patent is quite brilliant - but not so. It is useful, however: a combination USB + SD card slot. Combination ports have been around for ages, so this isn't anything to get too excited over, but with it, Apple will be able to either remove an entire port from its MacBooks, or replace the card reader of old with a USB port. For those who don't want to fetch... Read more...
With the KIRAbook 13 I7, Toshiba is flexing its muscles and taking on the likes of Apple, Asus, and Lenovo in the ultrabook arena. And you know what? Toshiba seems to be on the right track. With clean lines, a 2560 x 1440 resolution display and a slick magnesium alloy body, the KIRAbook is anything but a typical laptop. Hitting a home run in this market isn’t easy, because a true ultrabook should be as much about form as it is function. It should be thinner than a laptop, and lighter too. It needs processing power as well as decent battery life. But small, powerful hardware usually comes... Read more...
