RIM is in trouble after delays to its core products and upcoming BlackBerry OS 10 sent investors diving for cover. During the company's last conference call, its co-CEOs promised to investigate every possible option for improving RIM's market position while it works on the upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS and tries to strengthen the appeal of the BlackBerry Playbook. Even so, news that Microsoft and Nokia considered a joint bid for the company comes as a surprise. The Wall Street Journal reports that the three companies discussed such a proposition but notes that the status of the talks "remains unclear."... Read more...
RIM has been struggling to catch a break for months but the negative reports show no sign of slowing. According to UK rag The Guardian, the company has slashed production of its seven-inch tablet due to an enormous backlog of unshipped hardware. This follows the company's admission last week that it shipped just 200,000 PlayBooks in Q2, down from 500K in Q1. If true, it would mean that RIM has more PlayBook's in inventory than it's managed to sell to date. Quantas, the company that actually manufacturers the PlayBook, has cut its staff from 2,000 to less than 1,000. Unidentified sources with the... Read more...
Good news if you're an AT&T subscriber planning on picking up a BlackBerry Torch for the holidays. The wireless carrier has gone and cut the price of Research In Motion's Torch device by 50 percent, presumably to make room for three new phones built around Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 Platform, according to reports. "It's a promotion for the holiday season," AT&T spokeswoman Kate Tellier said. "It's usual to do this around the holidays." The BlackBerry Torch now runs $100 with a 2-year service contract, down from its initial selling price of $200 when it launched in August. Features include... Read more...
AT&T knows that users like options, and particularly when shopping for the holiday, colorful options tend to go over well. The new BlackBerry Torch 9800, which remains an AT&T exclusive phone, will soon be available in two extra colors: red and white. We guess red and green would have been the ultimate Christmas combination, but at least red and white will still make for hot sellers long after the holiday season is over. November 7 marks the day that these two will be on sale, but other than the color change, no other specification changes will be made. AT&T Spreads Good Cheer This... Read more...
RIM's line of BlackBerry smartphones has been popular among business users for some time, but the brand has been losing market share in recent years to other platforms such as Android and iPhone. Now, the company is looking to turn things around with its new BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone and the new BlackBerry 6 operating system. RIM claims BlackBerry 6 "retains the familiar and trusted features that distinguish the BlackBerry brand while delivering a fresh, approachable and engaging experience that’s powerful and easy to use." In other words, RIM says it has taken everything you like... Read more...

RIM hasn't done the best job keep this one a complete secret, but it's still a shock to most who don't follow each and every move of the BlackBerry maker. Today at a press event in NYC, AT&T and RIM jointly announced the next BlackBerry device, which will be the first to launch with BlackBerry OS 6. No, it's not a BlackPad tablet, but an actual phone: the Torch. This phone has also been known as the BlackBerry 9800, and it's yet another unique design from RIM. Rather than sticking with the traditional, and rather than going back to the Storm design that was near-universally disliked, the company... Read more...
