Thecus has launched a couple of new Network Attached Storage devices, powered by Intel’s latest Atom processors. The new Thecus N4800 and N2800 NAS boxes both sport 2.13GHz Atom processors, 2GB of DDR3 memory, HDMI outputs and USB 3.0 ports. In addition to being able to output many video files directly to a monitor through the HDMI outputs, these latest NAS devices also allow for hardware monitoring and even web browsing right from the device—without a need for a PC. The folks at Thecus have just unveiled their latest low-power Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, the N4100 EVO. This new N4100 looks just like previous iterations of this 4-bay NAS, and sports Thecus’ useful LCD and front panel buttons (among many other features), but this latest device is powered by a new, lower-power dual-core SoC from Cavium. To this point, most of the recently released, higher-end “off the shelf” network attached storage solutions targeted at small business or home users have features low-power Intel Atom processors. Thecus’ new, ultra-high-end N8900, however, boasts an Intel’s Core i3 processor and 8GB of DDR3 memory at its heart.
