The song "Let It Go," from Disney's smash hit Frozen describes Queen Elsa's decision to embrace her own magical powers and abilities rather than continuing to hide from her people -- and herself. It's a turning point for the character and hugely popular; Let it Go is the first Disney single to break the Billboard Hot 100 Top Ten since 1995. So what happens when you take Team Fortress's Heavy Weapons Guy and send him on a similar mission of self-discovery? Hilarity happens. That's what. It would've been good even if the creator had just animated Heavy singing along to Idina Menzel's vocals, but... Read more...
If you’re a regular here, you already know that Valve has been working up a Linux-flavored dish of Steam for some time. You might’ve even been one of the reportedly more than 60,000 people who put their names in the pool for the upcoming Beta. Scratch that – the existing Beta. The Steam for Linux Beta is up today with support for Team Fortress 2 and several other Steam games. In addition to TF2 and other titles, Steam for Linux Beta also supports Big Picture, the feature that lets you play on a TV. Right now, Steam for Linux Beta supports Ubuntu 12.04. Valve opted for... We recently disccused Valve's decision to offer free-to-play games on Steam. Such titles make money either by selling items and upgrades in game (microtransactions) or by offering a tiered service. Free gamers have access to a significant portion of the game, while paid subscribers have access to additional gear, weapons, or areas. Valve has just taken a step up from offering free games. The company's popular Team Fortress 2, first released in October 2007, will now allow players to download and compete for free. Gamers will  be able to purchase certain gear, but doing so won't be a necessity.... Read more...

Said extras can variously take the form of new areas to explore, weapon upgrades, power-ups / unique abilities, and in-game currency. The exact options depend on the title in question, but the system is designed to offer an immersive, enjoyable... Read more...
The Team Fortress 2 beta went live overnight, meaning some of you may notice missing people at work, as well as elsewhere. Last night a gaggle of old-school Team Fortress Classic fans flocked to Steam for their first shot at playing Team Fortress 2, a "beta" only available to those who have pre-ordered The Orange Box through Valve's download service. Unfortunately, as tends to happen with these anticipated downloads, there were some hiccups in the process. Ah well, the hiccups were worked out and now people are playing furiously.  This game has seemingly... Read more...
We posted some imagery from Valve's upcoming Team Fortress 2 in our coverage of AMD's ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT launch, but there is only so much a few screenshots can convey. To truly appreciate the fluidity of the animation and the character interaction, you have to see the game in motion.  If you haven't already had a chance to see TF2 in all its glory, there's a new video making the rounds today highlighting the game's rendering technologies that you really should check out... "A new Team Fortress 2 video has surfaced on the internets, focusing on the game's rendering technology. The three and... Read more...
