In what appears to be a Festivus/Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Boxing Day/Etc. miracle, Microsoft’s Surface 2 and Surface 2 Pro are selling out all over the place. All models except for the 64GB Surface (that’s last year’s Surface, mind you) are currently out of stock online at the Microsoft Store. There aren’t any at Walmart.com either, and Amazon listings show dwindling supplies. Several models are not available for shipping at Best Buy. Microsoft reported its fiscal Q1 2014 revenue, and things are actually looking pretty solid for Redmond. For the three-month period ending on September 30th, GAAP Revenue was up 16% to $18.53 billion from about $16 billion, and operating income was up from $5.31 billion to $6.33 billion. Revenue generated by Surface sales rose to $400 million, which bodes well for Microsoft’s homegrown tablet platform as the company debuts its new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 devices. It’s also interesting to note that although... Read more...

There’s been a lot of great audio software out there for a long time, but when it comes to mixing, adding effects, and otherwise... Read more...
This summer, Microsoft cut the price of its Surface Pro tablets by $100, and now it’s dropping the cost again by another hundo. The 64GB Surface Pro is now $699, and the 128GB version is $799. Both prices are for the tablet only--Touch or Type Covers are still extra. Regular Surface models, which run Windows RT, are $349 (32GB), $399 (64GB), and $449 (64GB with Touch Cover). Microsoft is just clearing out its leftover inventory of original Surface Pro tablets here to make way for the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, which we’ve covered extensively and went on sale earlier this week. If... Read more...
When we covered Microsoft’s unveiling of the second generation of its Surface devices, the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, we were impressed with the hardware and the in-person experience, and now those devices are available from the Microsoft Store and at several third-party retailers in 21 initial markets. The Surface 2 runs Windows RT 8.1 and boasts an NVIDIA Tegra 4 chip and a 10.6-inch (1920x1080) 5-point multitouch display. It has 2GB of RAM, 32GB (or 64GB) of onboard storage, 5MP/3.5MP rear and front cameras, stereo mics and speakers, USB 3.0, microSD card reader, and HD video out, and... Read more...
