I have a rule of thumb. Whenever I read anything about alternative energy of any kind, I simply skip over everything and look for the one thing that matters: Is it cheaper than oil and coal? Nothing else matters, really. Burning coal and oil to make energy to produce goods and services to tax to redistribute as subsidies to alternative energy producers is a colossal waste of time. We're in the early stages of a major transition in the PC arena, much like in 2004 when Intel launched their first core logic chipset with support for DDR2 memory.  This time around, however, Intel is pushing DDR3 memory with their current crop of desktop chipsets. 802.11n has taken forever to come to market - and it's still in Draft status, not even fully ratified.  Interoperability between chipsets is still a problem, as is the "bad neighbor" effect.  Yet the Burton Group today issued a report saying that businesses should plan on moving from gigabit LAN to wi-fi. The National Science Foundation is prepared to award IBM with a contract to construct the world’s fastest supercomputer the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. The machine cost $200 million to construct and could cost over $400 million during its five-year lifespan. Designated as the “super” supercomputer, it will be the first to break the petaflop barrier, capable of one thousand trillion mathematical calculations per second. NTT DoCoMo has just announced plans to start testing its new prototype “Super 3G” system for ultra-high speed data transfer over mobile devices. Japan’s largest mobile carrier hopes to attain a remarkable 300Mbps in its testing trials over the wireless network. While many of us still do not have access to High-definition TV signals, NHK (Nippon Hoso Kyokai) has already started development of the "Super Hi-Vision" TV system, which they hope will replace HDTV in the future.  Apparently, SHV is capable of 7680x4320 resolution.
