May 4th, otherwise known as Star Wars Day (May the Fourth/Force be with you) has come and gone, and if you were too busy geeking out to Iron Man 3's opening weekend or celebrating Cinco de Mayo, you might have missed out on Steam's weekend-long Star Wars sale. If that's the case, toss another cup of coffee at that hangover and head over to Steam, there's still time to save some Corellian coin. The entire Star Wars Franchise is on sale, with each individual title marked down by 66 percent. Alternately, you can buy the bundled collection at half-off for $50. Titles included in the collection are... Read more...
Disney may be putting the infamous axe to LucasArts video games, but that doesn't mean the company doesn't have big plans for another segment of the mythical universe. A new report suggests that Disney is going to produce a new Star Wars movie each year starting in 2015... until the world tires of them, and thus, this plan fails to make money. It's the very definition of "milking a franchise for all that it's worth," and there will certainly be those who oppose and those who support such a plan. At least for now, these new films will largely be spin-offs -- alternatives to the "core" movies that... Read more...
Walt Disney Co has agreed to purchase George Lucas's Lucasfilm Ltd and its Star Wars franchise for $4.05 billion in cash and stock. About half of the purchase price will be in cash. Disney will also issue about 40 million shares at the closing of the deal. After the deal closes, Lucas will become the second-largest individual holder of Disney shares with a 2.2 percent stake in the company. Disney's Chief Executive Bob Iger has said the company plans to release at least three more films in the Star Wars series. The most recent Star Wars movie, Revenge of the Sith, was released in 2005. In the past,... Read more...
There's a certain moment when most franchises realize that they've "arrived." And that moment could be when you manage to get a Star Wars license. Angry Birds, the ever-popular game from Rovio, will soon be launching a Star Wars-braded version. Make no mistake; this is no knockoff. This is a legitimate Star Wars branding, so get ready to see likenesses of Luke and plenty of other favorite characters. Perhaps even more important for Rovio is that the license deal includes merch, so get ready to see Angry Birds Star Wars t-shirts as well. The game is slated to launch on iOS, Android and computers... Read more...
Rovio may have learned how to wield the Force. According to the company's Angry Birds Tumblr page, a Star Wars tie-in to the highly popular game is in the works and will be unveiled on Monday in Times Square, New York. Whether that entails a new game remains to be seen, but whatever it is, it appears those PO'd birds are going with the Dark Side. "Welcome to the Angry Birds Tumblr page. Over the next few weeks we’ll have behind-the-scenes content, animations, comics, and much, much more. But what will this all be about exactly?! Here’s a clue…," Rovio teases on the page. Underneath... Read more...
If you're not battling your way through the subscription-based Star Wars: The Old Republic right now, Electronic Arts wants to change that - and it's willing to offer a ton of free content to get you on board. Starting this fall, EA's BioWare label is providing a Free-To-Play option that lets you play a character to level 50. If you aren't hooked enough to buy a subscription by then, EA seems to be reasoning, it ain't gonna happen. There will be some restrictions. Although all of the eight character class storylines are open in the Free-To-Play version, (Bounty Hunter, Imperial Agent, Jedi Consular,... Read more...
When it comes to Star Wars, the gaming industry has a long history of cranking out titles of uncertain quality. For every brilliant title like Knights of the Old Republic, we've seen several clunkers (Kinect Star Wars anyone) and a few outright failures like Republic Heroes. LucasArts demonstrated a new Star Wars game at E3 this week -- Star Wars: 1313 -- and despite the brand's uneven history, we're cautiously optimistic. The 1313 moniker refers to a specific level of Coruscant that's a haven for criminals, bounty hunters, and crime lords. You take on the role of a bounty hunter looking for information... Read more...

In order to charge $250 for a keyboard, it has to be something pretty special. Razer thinks its new Star Wars: The Old Republic themed gaming keyboard qualifies, which is just one of several themed items now up for preorder. The other items include a mouse, headset, and mouse mat, all molded and decked out in an Old Republic theme. So how else do you justify a $250 plank? This particular one comes with a multi-touch LCD track panel built into the right-hand side with interchangeable digital faction symbols. It's a full color display, and above it sit ten dynamic adaptive tactile keys. There are... Read more...
Is there anything more rad than a Star Wars themed Xbox 360 game console? Had you asked us that question three decades ago, we would have looked at you funny, asked what the frak an Xbox 360 is, and then inquired if they make a Star Wars version of the Atari 2600, the coolest game system on the planet back then. It's a testament to the Star Wars franchise that the brand is just as awesome today as it was back then, and even though we're now closer to the launch of the Xbox 720 than the 360, you can bet this Limited Edition refresh will find plenty of homes. Perhaps in yours. You may have seen fliers... Read more...
The Xbox 360 is six years old, granted, and in the realm of technology, that's pretty ancient. Be that as it may, we can't help but get a little excited about a Star Wars themed 360 console decked out in R2D2 trim and accompanied by a C3PO inspired controller. Throw in a white Kinect bar and our geek senses start to go into overload. We've actually known about the themed console for quite some time, and we were hoping it would be out by now. Obviously that isn't the case, but according to Kotaku, it will likely launch in April 2012. Kotaku says the themed console is being used on the set of a popular... Read more...
