“I don't want my life to imitate art, I want my life to be art”.I remember the first time I saw Star Wars: A New Hope. I was six years old and watching the re-releases in a Southern Californian theater. At this point in time, there were not a ton of strong, female characters in science fiction and fantasy for me to admire or emulate. This all changed with Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. Not only did she put the often whiny and snarky male characters in their place, but she was a compelling, respected leader for a cause she believed in. It does not matter what your political affiliation is, if any, we should all be able to agree that more can be done to take care of our military veterans. That is why DARPA (Defense Advanced Researched Projects Agency) deserves major kudos this holiday season. DARPA has developed a sophisticated bionic arm and is offering these upper-limb prostheses to amputees who are U.S. war veterans. The prosthetic system is cleverly named LUKE, which stands for Life Under Kinetic Evolution, but is also an intentional reference to the limb Luke Skywalker wielded in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.... Have you ever dreamed of racing through the forests of Endor on a top-of-the-line speeder bike? YouTuber Devinsupertramp has made this childhood dream into a reality -- sort of. The vlogger refashioned hydro-powered Jetovators into the iconic Star Wars speeders from Return of the Jedi. The video was filmed on the Sacramento River in California, while the speeders were essentially Jetovators modified with duck tape. According to one of the creators, “If you think of the Jetovator as a Kawasaki Ninja, this is like a custom chopper.” They estimated that they used roughly 75 rolls of duct tape. The... Read more...
In a galaxy not so far away, the final trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released. Some new information was released alongside cinematic action-packed shots. It turns out that the Skywalkers are not the only members of the Star Wars universe with daddy issues. The trailer begins with Galen Erso, father of the protagonist Jyn Erso, telling his young daughter, “Whatever I do, I do to protect you. Do you understand?” It seems that Galen Erso is one of the main reasons the Rebellion has sought out Jyn. Galen is the key architect of the notorious Death Star. A member of the Rebellion is shown... Galaxy in Turmoil, the fan made remake of what would have been Battlefront III (had Electronic Arts not cancelled the project) might at one time seemed like a long shot to see the light of day, but now the odds may have tipped in its favor. That's because Valve has agreed to host the freebie release on its wildly popular Steam distribution platform. This is a major development that has the game's developer Frontwire Studios super excited, though the Russian outfit never stressed too much over the possibility that Disney might close the project down. It only had "mild concerns" on occasion, and... Read more...

It's said that behind every successful man is a great woman, and true to form, we're seeing some fantastic female leads in the new Star Wars movies. Just as Daisy Ridley took the spotlight in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Rey, it looks as though Disney's forthcoming Rogue One: A Stars Wars Story will also focus much attention on a capable female character. The first trailer for Rogue One surfaced today and it doesn't take long to figure out that there's no 'damsel in distress' storyline taking place. Instead, we're introduced to Jyn Erso, a rebel in need of a cause and a bit of a spark plug played... Read more...
Star Wars has a new villain who wears a mask, that of Kylo Ren who appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first of a new trilogy of sequels that Disney plans to release two years apart from one another. But what of Darth Vader? Rumor has it he'll appear as his old self in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the first of three planned spin offs. The spin offs are standalone films that flesh out subplots in the main series. Rogue One will kick things off by focusing on events that occurred shortly before Star Wars: A New Hope, otherwise known as Episode IV (the original Star Wars movie released in... Read more...
Although updated sales figures haven’t yet been released, and some initial reviews were less than stellar, if the movie is any indicator, EA’s Star Wars Battlefront is poised to be a resounding success in the gaming community. And with an expansion pack inbound, that will likely feature content that ties in with the Force Awakens, it’ll probably continue that success for quite a while. AMD has been offering free copies of Star Wars Battlefront to new buyers of Radeon Fury graphics cards since mid-November 2015 and will continue to do so through the end of this month. But with... Smartwatches in general have been met with much skepticism ever since they started crossing most peoples’ radars in 2014. The biggest criticism leveled against smartwatches is that they duplicate much of the functionality found on smartphones (which themselves are already quite convenient), in turn making them $250+ gadgets that we don’t really need in the first place. While some of that may be true, Taiwanese researchers from PVD+ are at least using a smartwatch to pull of some pretty amazing tricks. In this case, the research team has written a software algorithm that turns an Apple Watch into... Read more...
If you won’t be able to catch Star Wars: The Force Awakens on opening night, or even during its opening weekend, you might want to tread lightly when browsing popular site reddit. Some spiteful users are going out their way to post spoilers for the movie on the site, and the reddit community has brought out the pitchforks. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is likely to be the biggest movie of 2015, and it’s been over a decade since the release of Revenge of the Sith — or if you’re like me, it’s been 32 years since the last real Star Wars movie was released. Needless to say, fans are extremely excited... Read more...

Sorry all you rebel scum, but I've joined the Dark side. You can too through a new collaboration between Google and Disney that will see all of your Google accounts get a themed makeover. Or if you'd rather, you can join the Light side, otherwise known as the losing side at the moment (though not by much). Once you choose a side, Google will get busy transforming your online experience in a number of fun and creative ways.
